If it were my project I would look on this forum for a genuine ww2 replacement barrel and exchange the bulged barrel. The folks on this forum can direct you to what to look for. There are guys here who can do the work. Good luck. Chuck

Under the butt plate is stamped 4.4B.41B Does the letter B have any significance?

Picture added above. The stock disc has a very small stamp [1/32"] that looks like an mx or mz. The m has the profile of an owl, curved sides. The buttplate has the proofs GW3 and pa6w [the a could be a small 8]. Thanx again.

CanadianAR, there is a proof low on the front of the wrist, I'll get a pic of it today and post it. The top figure looks like a 9 with a u on the bottom of the vertical line. The bottom figure looks like a open top 4 with a serif on the bottom and a chevron beneath it. Thanx, Chuck.

My 1941 Sauer has a stock with W/63 proofs. The stock and bands both have the serial number 7552 stamped on them, however the bands are proofed W/37. Did Borgeswalde provide stocks to Sauer in that time period? Thanx mrfarb. Chuck.

Thanx D-K and Dave. The numbers on the stock/metal are 34 digits above the barreled action and matching to themselves although the proofs are a mix of Sauer[37] and Borgiswalde[63]. The wear on the right side of the receiver also indicates that the barreled action may have been in another stock...

I have found that adding WD-40 to the wood area when adding or removing bands greatly reduces gouging/scratching of the wood. Chuck

It depends on the humidity of the air where you store your firearms, higher humidity= more rust. In humid areas the foam keeps the moisture that collects in the foam against the metal. Chuck
