This Mauser has been in the family since 1948. The modification was done before we got the rifle. Does the cut out look familiar?

Many thanx, Chuck.

ps. The barreled action has all matching numbers [with the exception of the safet] series "t", number 7516.
The stock wood and all metal are matching numbers, 7552. The proofs on the stock metal
are confusing. The buttplate is #7552 with gw3 and pB86w proofs. the crossbolt is proofed 63 as well as the band spring. Both bands are proofed 37. Now all these stock parts have the same serial number but different proofs. And the explanation is ?

Thanx again, Chuck.

Yeah, it looks like someone cut the stock to mount a rear peep sight but it appears they didn't follow through. Either that, or this stock came from a different rifle.

My 1st thought was Stock is from another Rifle . See if the Stock has matching #s or Not. Best Regards

Thanx D-K and Dave. The numbers on the stock/metal are 34 digits above the barreled action and matching to themselves although the proofs are a mix of Sauer[37] and Borgiswalde[63]. The wear on the right side of the receiver also indicates that the barreled action may have been in another stock. It could be just a coincidence that the serial numbers are so close and from the same manufacturer[same fonts and size].

I tried to position a side mounted peep sight in the cut out and it fit perfectly.
Good eyes D-K and thanx.

Chuck
