    Help to ID stock please

Trying to determine what Rifle this stock would be correct for. Walnut, cupped buttplate. No bolt disassembly disk, has bayonet lug and is drilled for a cleaning rod. The only external markings I can find is the serial number on the keel of the stock, number is also present in barrel channel And...

    K98

The existing upper band is the correct type for your rifle. I would leave it. The original would have had a matching sn and an Eagle over 655 inspection mark on the other side. Check the serial numbers on the lower band and the buttplate to see if those have matching numbers. If the rifle were...

    K98

K98k, made in 1940 by Mauser Oberndorf. Serial number 171 nn. All other numbered parts should have 171 or 71. See the trigger guard, floor plate and follower, those parts are numbered matching. The upper band shows a non matching number as does the bolt. The bolt is from a WWl era Gew. 98. Is...

Need help with rating condition and identifying this gun.

i would have said approximately $1500. But Chris is both more knowledgeable on Imperial pieces and much more current on values. I would go with his estimate.

    Standard Modell for data collection.

Picked this up cheap as it was advertised as a Chinese copy, its a real SM, but I have no doubt it was sold to China. Only matching parts are BR, triggerguard, and sear. Bolt, and stock are SM, but not for this rifle, stock is for the early version SM with the upper band held by a pin. The one...

An Amateur Polish Mauser Bolt Study

Mark thanks for taking on this project. I am attaching photos of my matching WZ 98. (The sidewall on mine and the only two others I have seen are marked W.98.) These are quick indoor photos, I will replace these with better ones later. Note that the bolt ball is devoid of any markings. Not...

    $3,750 Polish Wz.29 on Legacy - WHAT?!?!

if the depot stamp is there, and it may very well be, that is just more evidence that it is not an original as issued Polish rifle. Also interesting that the seller states the missing ”disk” on the stock, actually the nut of the recoil lug, doesn’t affect functionality of the rifle. Anyone...

    Desportizing a G.33/40 (need parts)

I don’t see any attached photos with your post. But unless the original finish on the metal and wood are already modified in some way, I would be very hesitant to refinish them. Others will chime in if you are able to attach photos.

    $3,750 Polish Wz.29 on Legacy - WHAT?!?!

Agree, this is clearly a German captured , reissued rifle. The removed lower sling swivels and added numbers on small parts are classic German mods, similar to what they did to many Czech VZ-24s. I think many of the German modified VZ-24s did not show depot markings, and I suspect this was true...

    Loewe 1890 Gew.88- Nazi Marked

I have not mentioned the stock SN as the number fonts used by different Imperial era depots is not an area I have studied. Candidly I don’t feel qualified to give an opinion on its authenticity, I try to refrain from making definitive statements on areas I know little about. I do not feel the...

    Loewe 1890 Gew.88- Nazi Marked

I guess your definition of modification is different than mine. If you try and remove that sling loop, I think you will find it is more substantial than a simple piece of wire. And yes that modification is very common on Gew88s that have been imported from SA. Can I prove it was done there, no...

    Loewe 1890 Gew.88- Nazi Marked

Not ignoring it at all, nor am I arguing that the rifle is not a legitimate depot rework. I think the most likely scenario is the rifle is a wartime rework, that was later “enhanced “. If you read my complete post it is clear I was referring to the interwar period. In fact my entire post is...

    Loewe 1890 Gew.88- Nazi Marked

I don’t think the stock on this rifle or the barreled receiver shows any Polish connection. My reasoning is as follows. I have Polish manufactured mausers with dates ranging from 1924 to 1937. The eagles on them are consistently more rounded in appearance than the one on this Gew 88 Stock. I...

    Loewe 1890 Gew.88- Nazi Marked

First off as a “boomer”, I shouldn’t even post as apparently that is a disqualification for having a legitimate opinion. Yes I found the boomer comments to be both irreverent to the subject at hand, and personally offensive. Now on to the rifle. Whenever a rifle shows up that varies from...

    Sauer and Sons Kar98

That is a very nice rifle. I prefer pre and early war guns myself and J P Sauer was one of the best quality makers in my opinion.

Gewehr 88 I just got from auction. Potentially a war bond rifle?

Was at the old house today and dug out the Gew88 I mentioned in the above post. Spandau 1889. All mat except barrel bands. Both the muzzle end and the chamber end of the barrel were plugged. The matching numbered FP was clipped, bolt head missing.

So I got a call from the gun store…

Not adding, just a momentary relapse 😀. I wasn’t looking for one, it kind of came to me. I did appreciate the shop owner contacting me, and the price was very fair. is the 153301 on the scope a scope serial number? thanks,

Just bought this, did I get a good deal? BYF 44

I would not fire live rounds unless you can find out what happened to cause the exterior “finish” And can determine it is structurally sound. I’m thinking Stan may be on target, fire damage, if so I would think it unsafe. Looks like it may have had a soldered on scope base? That would explain...
