$3,750 Polish Wz.29 on Legacy - WHAT?!?!

Oooof, Tom must be hitting that good stuff!

Legacy as a "rare, all-original F.B. Radom Wz. 29 rifle" listed for $3,750. Immediately I noticed some red flags:

Bolt is blued, has serial number stamped in the bolt handle stem base (should be on the bolt stem for a 1935 rifle), small parts are serialized (the Poles didn't do this), there are signs of force matched/scrubbed and restamped numbers, sling swivels are cut off on the stock and the rear barrel band. It suggests a Nazi capture rework rifle, although I can't see from the photos if there is a depot marking on stock.

This is another, I have no idea where that price was obtained!

Agree, this is clearly a German captured , reissued rifle. The removed lower sling swivels and added numbers on small parts are classic German mods, similar to what they did to many Czech VZ-24s. I think many of the German modified VZ-24s did not show depot markings, and I suspect this was true of captured Polish rifles as well.

The remnants of the original sn can be seen on both the bolt root, and very clearly on the cocking piece. And isn’t that an Weimar era acceptance on the top of the cocking piece?

This rifle has similar characterizes to my depot marked Wz29. The depot proof is not stamped behind the serial number on the stock though. It is really close to the end of the stock, and not that far from the butt plate. You could ask for more pictures of that area. Might be there.

if the depot stamp is there, and it may very well be, that is just more evidence that it is not an original as issued Polish rifle. Also interesting that the seller states the missing ”disk” on the stock, actually the nut of the recoil lug, doesn’t affect functionality of the rifle. Anyone shooting that rifle will quickly discover the folly of that statemen.

Wow….that’s bad!

I get that when dealing with MILSURPs and other “classic” guns there are a lot of unique guns with some unique parts….but the Mauser isn’t one of them. They’re some of the most common military rifles in the world and they all have the recoil lug. For a “high end” dealer not to know that (or to allow his ignorant staff to post it) is embarrassing. 😳
