“Kriegsmodell” page 130 lists serial numbers 77153 l and 85995 l as having standard stocks. These rifles bracket my sn 77806 l. Standand stocks and Kriegsmodell stocks both seem to be well represented in the “l” block.

When I disassembled to check the barrel code, I checked the hg and barrel channel for sn using a good light, I don’t think either were ever numbered

    Help Identifying Kar 98b

when the barrel was shortened, the original 98b stock could have been altered, or it may have been fitted with a standard K98k stock. For a cosmetic restoration, I would go with an early flat buttplate stock, milled upper and lower bands and a K98k bolt to replace the current Czech VZ-24 bolt.

K98 Stock ID help needed - possibly ‘44 Steyr used

wouldn’t the small eagle, big H on the stock indicate Steyr use?

That was my opinion as well from researching known examples and the books. Semi Kreigs are common but not exclusive in the “l” block, full stocks were still used enough that they would not be seen as an anomaly. I have a semi-kreigs in walnut (bayonet lug and cleaning rod , but no takedown disc...

Nothing under the buttplate, although the buttplate retains it red primer on the inside. I don’t see any evidence of a SN in the barrel channel, even using a magnifier. If I tear it back down I will try to get a better picture tomorrow.

I received this rifle sans stock, I found a laminate stock without sn’s and a single E/135 stock proof on the right side of the stock (Faint, but it is there) I believe this is correct for this rifle, unfortunately the stock has a postwar number added to the left side of the stock, Yugoslavia, I...

    my 2nd k98 gunshow find

i would just source milled upper and lower bands, add a repro cleaning rod and call it good. It does not need rebluing in my opinion.

    my 2nd k98 gunshow find

I would just clean it and oil it. If you reblue it, it will look out of place in a used/worn stock. But I respect your right to do what you want to your own property.

    Standard Modell B series

This recently acquired B series SM is an earlier manufacture, I believe 1935, but was residing in a later SM stock with wide lower band and K98k style band retaining spring. Those later parts will be used to return the 7mm I posted earlier to correct configuration. while I had it apart I...

    7mm Standard Modell variant

Reviving this old thread because I finally got some photos of the SM I was originally asking about. Short recap, sn B68780, differs from most in this serial number range in two ways, it is in 7mm and is marked as such on the bottom of the barrel. The complete barrel code is: 37 R 50, the 7.0...

Looking for help to determine production year.

The OPs rifle has later features. The 1933 and 1934 Standard Modells had dated receivers and a Standard-Modell 1924 marked sidewall. I have Standard Modell B68780; with a 1937 barrel date. I would estimate the OP’s rifle to be late 1937 production.

gew98 with k98 length barrel but gew98 sights?

if this modification had been done by official sources in the Weimar era, no way the rollercoaster sight would remain. i would suggest: Spain Interarms bubba in that order.

    Fake Standard Model?

Pre-war inspectors often rejected parts for minor cosmetic reasons on an otherwise serviceable part. Rather than trash these parts Mauser repurposed them. Many Standard models were built on rejected receivers that had their original markings buffed out and a Mauser Banner and new sidewall...

    DOU 42 K98k Restoration - in progress

The trigger guard, with the hole for a removable swivel is for a Mauser with a bottom mounted sling, Gew. 98 or Standard Modell for example. Your rifle needs a milled trigger guard without the hole. As a collector’s forum, it is my opinion/observation that members routinely buy rifles with no...

    Another 98b photograph

The uniforms are pre model 1936, so I would guess 34, 35 or early 1936, but based on the headgear I would expect 34 or 35.
