SS Contract and Single Rune serial study

Good document, I hadn't read that before. It makes perfect sense too, supply was difficult enough, adding another bureaucratic layer, especially one as independent and unaccountable as the SS would be insane... the SS were fanatics of the first order, but they weren't totally nuts. (well yes, they were nuts, but sort of like North Korean nuts... fanatically insane but coherent within the framework of their ideology...)

Another document in English about weapons and the SS.

Didn't realized you hadn't read this - here's a few more pages from the same document which describes more.

normally the Waffen-SS was equipped by the OKH via negotiations with the SS-FHA- the OKH doled out weapons based on TO&E tables

Of this we totally agree. They fought with and mutually supported in many cases so this makes total sense. The 'other' SS units not so much.

bnz 43 K98 serial number to add

I just acquired a nice, vet bring back bnz 43 (Army) and would like to add it to your bbl serial number study:

Nice to be back! Here are a few pics:

bnz43 bore

The best part....mirror bright bore, little if any pitting.

Yes….it's indeed Army issued. Just wanted to add my serial number to the 'Army' portion of the serial number study.

bnz43/bnz4/bnz44 Army Contract (this section is being built for comparison to Single Rune and SS Contract production).

Thanks for sharing. The below the woodline metal finish on the receiver is really rough. Bolt is pretty crude too.

I really don't know anything about these things, but it maybe of interest to others, a supposed original SS sniper rifle has recently been sold (on hold) by a well known dealer here in the UK.
Not great detail photos on the ad though, but they won't remain posted for too much longer, but there is no direct link to the ad, but below is the link to the dealers total current listings, and its not too difficult to scan down to find the SS sniper. Just click on the listing and it will expand for details and photos.

Care to confirm e/77 x2 on the bolt bottom flat, whether the sleeve and safety is e/77?

Wrist of stock e/623? Or any other stock markings? Cupped buttplates are almost universally unmarked here, but some sub-contractors are known in 1943. No barrel shoulder number? Getting common by the s-block, looks like a faint 5 or 6 on the side, seen them off-center like this, but hard to say if they are related.. SDP is only consistent in one thing, sloppiness and crudity so probably is, though the meaning escapes a explanation (why 0-9, sometimes an alpha, on the barrel shoulder?)

I’ve wondered what these numbers and sometimes letters were for, and I’ve seen them on several places and parts in SDP production, see below:

I’ve also seen numbers 1, 2, and 3 on SDP sears, but not on the triggers. Maybe on bolt bottom flats too? If anyone can make sense of the numbers you can Paul! Good stuff!

The safety is 77 marked. The bolt is also double 77 marked with a clear eagle. The ejector assembly, extractor and collar are also 77 marked. Looks like a '0' on the barrel and there is no 623 at the wrist on the lower. The buttplate has no markings nor does the milled follower or milled band spring. From what I've read, wasn't SDP switching to stamped parts around this time?

A few more numbers/stampings on the various parts. Partial '3' on the bolt knob. Upside down '3' in the sling notch.

*Update - looks like a 'p' on the underside of the follower and either a partial '0' or 'U' on the underside of the floorplate. *

I stand corrected, this gun has “3” on the trigger!! Thank you for all the photos, this is great stuff and you have a nice rifle there.

Thanks! Looks like a '3' on one side, and '8' on the other (stamped on the WaA77)??

Certainly could be, I have only documented numbers 1-3 on sears so your trigger (which most do not take time to photograph so thank you!) is so far the only “number marked” one I’ve seen!! I wish we knew what these numbers WERE!!
