    Another Gew-88

i think blasting Ernie because he doesn’t post photos is inappropriate. I post photos, and would more often if it were more user friendly, resizing every photo gets time consuming. Maybe when I “really” retire I will have the time to post enough to get good at it. Their are multiple ways to...

    VZ.24 cleaning tools and practices?

The cleaning rods on the K98k was not intended to be used for routine cleaning as Muncher pointed out. It took three rods screwed together to get the required length, and steel segmented Rods are not good for the rifling or muzzle crown. My own opinion is the rod sections were for emergencies...

Funky Israeli Mauser with 100 years old action

Could also be a repair to a damaged stock, the location approximating the location of a butt sling swivel could be coincidental.

    P38 Local Find

Here is mine. Picked up many years ago, also in the Radom holster. Like the OP’s, appear to have been there awhile.

    Interesting sling usage

I have seen multiple pictures of rifles stacked with slings “shortened “ like that. Pretty practical way to keep the sling out of the way when it is not needed for a short length of time

Having developed an interest in collecting and shooting the Gew. 88 I would be interested. I believe I have theee variations in my own collection.

Correct ammo for Czech barreled Gew. 88

Ernie, I was hoping you would add your expertise to this discussion. I have enough parts to assemble 2 or 3 Gew88s with Czech barrels. I am going to advertise them as non shooting wall hangers only.

Correct ammo for Czech barreled Gew. 88

A lot of of Gew. 88s ended up in South America and many were rebarreled with Czech made replacement barrels. For whatever reason these barrels were not made to German military specs, instead having a smaller (.308 x .312 , I think) bore. I don’t know what countries used these, but was there a...

    Mauser 42/1940

The only good thing about getting ready for a move, is finding things you didn't know you had. I lived in Ky. 25 years ago and this rifle along with a bayonet and ammo pouch came from an estate sale there. All matching except the front triggerguard screw, which does have a correct waffenampt...

Beginning of hooded front sights on Mauser 1940

Wondering what is the earliest noted code 42, 1940 dated Mauser with a sight base slotted for a hood ? Vol lla pictures a qq suffix and notes it is "early". Their is a mm suffix in the pic stickies that looks like a factory cut to me. Asking because I have a oo suffix cut for a hood, it looks...

New member Advice Please between a russian capture or a vet bring back. i want to make an informed buy not a impulse.

you need more pictures, but the RC is not worth more than $800 at the most. The bottom rifle is not a vet bring back. the additional stock bolt in front of the trigger guard is a post war addition, and it appears to have been reblued.

Need advice on bluing options for filled in scope mount holes.

If the stock is for a Kar98a, that is a small ring action. The Gew 98 receiver of your barreled action would not fit. Can you post pictures of the stock? I have never seen a SS conversion based on the kar98 action.
