Questionable Camos

Aka, word salad. IMHO, WAF did a great deal of damage to helmet collecting through the heavy handed enforcement of some opinions as gospel and the suppression of other opinions. Often enough the former were wrong and the latter correct (e.g., Champagne Runes and the XRF lid taser). Once the group became invested, literally, in certain high doller kamos, they became "wow" "one lookers" and "exotic freshies." The price of transparency and open debate as is taking place here is some occasional butthurt and personal disputes.

Always thought the " what do you know? You only have 20 posts"

Like you have to have ANY posts to be knowledgeable on any subject.....

Intellect, Knowledge & experience cant be gauged from post counts or the amount of items someone possesses. There are some who own many and know little of what they own. They just have the means to acquire.

To study and learn takes time and effort and little cash funding.

Here is another fake where someone was taken for $2750. Keep your eyes open. It will pop up somewhere.

The liner is a COMPLETE fake.

I have handled these liners and they are not original. They have a weird smell and almost plastic feel to them. Also notice the weird burns on the fold over where the liner ring is. Bad stuff people.

Indeed. Some of the most knowledgeable guys in the world on the K98k are here and have low post counts / rarely post. Internets flapping of gums does not an expert make.

He was exposed as a fraud. What do you guys want?

You are ok with a guy destroying everyone camos wi h obviously rudimentary skills?

That's acceptable?

There are PLENTY of guys on GHW that get called out

The difference is most are humble and accept others opinions and don't troll.

Maybe there isn't enough "calling out" over there. You know why? Because a lot of guys know what they are doing.

Soooooo,less bad lids.

Pretty easy to figure out.

To answer your post:

M45 to be fair destroyed NO camo helmet that he selected and posted here, he gave his opinion only and highlighted certain areas of concern. The helmet remains the same before and after posting, so end that myth for starters. The problem was that helmet owners got the hump, as their prized and expensive purchase had been questioned. If the owner of the helmet had it in hand and was happy with it after all his personal checks, he should be confident and ignore irrelevant opinion.

Rudimentary skills!! often what was pointed out made me look again with a different viewpoint and made me personally re-assess the evaluation of a camo. I found the information from M45 useful, you take from it what you believe and ignore the rest. So for me yes, acceptable, each has their opinion on this question. Collectors have varying opinion, so you will always get for and against, If one can't take criticism - don't post.

There are certain guys on GHW that could post a stone painted in LW blue and would still get the thumbs up, back-slap and one - looker comments from their circle of friends, regardless. This is the potential danger when no-one has the balls to question it, in fear of ridicule or of being accused of not knowing what they are talking about. M45 had his agenda, but he was not afraid to speak up and point out his opinions, that is good for the hobby. To highlight another viewpoint, be it correct or not, that is for all of us to judge and decide.

GHW is the best forum for helmets, the picture quality and set-up now is second to none. But IMHO there are sometimes helmets posted that are not original, but are hailed as one-lookers by certain 'clicks', there are also certain members that are 'untouchable' in what they post. There are 'bad lids' posted and accepted as the real deal..so not IMO 'pretty easy to figure out' and not good for the inexperienced to reference.

Even though M45 was extreme and inflexible with his agenda, I liked the fact that he questioned helmets and brought another way of thinking to the table. He once selected one of my camo helmets that I had posted on GHW2 and it had received very good reviews - it was 'slaughtered' here. I appreciated the contrasting opinion and learned from it, the alternative views made me look and assess the helmet again. Yes it convinced me I had bought a 'dud'. lesson learned.

Ken Huddle is a personal friend of mine. To the best of my knowledge, he has viewed posts on this forum but has never commented on a single one. I set him up with the account information, and he has taken it from there, or perhaps not I suppose. Anyhow, I doubt Ken would be called a novice or an idiot by anyone that knows much about the hobby. I can say that he is looking forward a great deal to the Mid-War book.

But yea, "post count experts" are just that, people who post a lot.

I don't know why I bother.....................

Same as craigslist, eBay, all the forums..........

Some people rest their gun sights on the wrong quotient

The quality of your commentary, as acerbic as it can be at times, is appreciated here. It's about getting it right as much as possible, not being told you are right as much as possible.

That's a pretty good fake. I would want it in hand. It looks like Rex work, but with a bit more subdued chemical wash to age it. The issue to me is that all the "wear" and "age" looks like it happened at once. I missed the humped liner. It looks a little off, but not enough to jump out at me in these pics without prompting.

I don't remember what I said exactly.

Something to the effect about another fake camo that someone spent an exorbitant amount of money and lost.

I thought it would be a hit. I waited an hour or so with no response. I thought maybe this thread was so much in the sewer with the "Acer" and Eric hatefest that it was a lost cause.

I tried to delete it but the images stayed in place.

UGGGHH

Whatever..............

Rest assured that many are reading, not everyone is commenting. I've received significant feedback concerning the value of this thread.

The liner is odd and I know I have seen this one before posted. As it has a certain look and the naming is Odd...

The exterior I really have no issue with for the most part... If Im wrong so be it. I would like to have it in hand and study it..
