M42 snow camo

http://www.germanhelmetsinc.com/gallery.htm

Not for sale but in the owners collection gallery.

This is one of the very few "one looker" original snow camouflage helmets that I have ever owned.

Note that photos are shaded, common with this dealer re: snow camos and medics, presumably to tone down the bright white paint. Plenty of paint popped off of this one in addition to many parallel scratches.

Funny, no? We request sharp, high res and accurate pics from the plebs but dealers get a free pass when it comes to image quality.

Strange medic similarity

These medic helmets all have a type of material pattern on them.

Its pretty much the same set of helmets, but from a different angle. He rotated the bottom row to face the camera, changed a couple of the camos around. Solid.

Twin geometrics

http://www.ghw2.com/topic/53505-twin-geometric-camos/

We have TWINS Mabel ! By golly, now these things are popping up TWO at a time! These helmets appear identical as to colors, scheme, wear, age. Painted up by the same unit, I suppose and saw identical action ?

Recall that photo of the former WAF mod sitting at a table with FOUR near identical sawdust camos.

EDIT: standing at a table.

EDIT:

I didn't want to intrude on Martins great thead on his Geometric camos.

I never thought I would have one in my collection but luck came my way a few years ago. This is the one from The John Burnett collection that he sourced from the woodwork.

Its not the sprayed type that are in the thread, but its still a geometric. Ken B has the brother to this one.

Ss normandy camo

http://www.ghw2.com/topic/36271-ss-normandy-camo-m40q/

Apparently a former DougB SS helmet. Concerns are the way the bare metal has reacted, re: red rust on bare steel and rust pitting of the steel on the rim and airvents. This helmet has been outside for a fair amount of time, but during use the rust turns to a smooth, dark patina. This is often notable on the rim and crown and vents.

However, when a helmet sets outside to 'cook' (a replica) it develops red rust and rust pitting; nothing to get in the way of the rusting process like hands rubbing against it.

A well-distributed minor-moderate wear throughout, which is unnatural IMO. No significant extra wear to the crown that differs from the rest of the helmet.

I can see how it would be easy to become snake-fascinated with this one, like many were snake-fascinated with C-SS. Think about how movie prop artists do their work; painting up wood to make it appear to be stone or metal, etc... The painting of a helmet to make it appear to be a 70+ year old authentic camo is right up the alley of a (con) artist.

Here's alleged camo faker and father of the CSS table at MAX. He also peddles his wares on Facebook. If he truly is the crook he is said to be, and so many people know it, it truly is a damning indictment of the helmet community that he even dares to set up a table at MAX. My two cents on his alleged activity. Maybe he is a stand up guy.

PANZER 1432: Correct, but I would not become too obsessed with the rim of the helmet. IMO there are several other parts of the helmet that carry more weight.

The helmet is good.

Panzer 1432 translation: Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

M40 single decal Luftwaffe helmet with 3-color spray camouflage

http://www.germanhelmetsinc.com/gallery.htm

In regard to the last 3 camos:

These things are all starting to look alike. Near 100% camo coverage despite heavy rim/vent wear, micro-spatter indicative of modern spray equipment, no serious combat wear despite being front line helmets, colors are bright/vibrant, not faded over 7 decades of oxidation,

they all have that 'used but not abused look that we like to see', or just the right amount of wear that collectors like to see on their helmets (that's referring to ORIGINAL helmets, BTW)

a few 'nice touches' like a fingerprint here or there or a bit of camo on the linerband or overspray on the chinstrap.

What ?? no fancy war stories about how they were found in a bunker or captured during the Battle of the Bulge, no photos of vets posing with the helmets, no ownership histories, no COA paperwork, no field post numbers to trace to specific troopers, no traceable provenance whatsoever ???

So these things just "appear" out of nowhere.

M38 normandy camo

http://www.ghw2.com/topic/52323-fj-helmet-from-normandie-falaise-pocket/

Hi guys, just want to share with you another of my helmet found a fews years ago in Normandie Falaise pocket..

Hope you will like it !

Martin

A German helmet camo found recently in France ? I'm not surprised based on what I see. France has become a hotbed of fake camos in the last years.

a centerpiece sawdust camo

http://www.ghw2.com/topic/53310-the-centerpiece/page-7

Here is mine... M35 sawdust camouflage.

There are certainly helmets that are way more scarce and "beautiful" than this one, but I just love the patina and it has that really nice combat look to it without being too outworn!

It was found in France decades ago, by the way... had a quick stopover in Spain before it finally ended up in my collection a couple of months back!

Another French camo visiting a forum near you to rave reviews.
