PTR44 Semi-Auto MP44

Wow, so finally going to happen. Any idea what the lineup will be? I just wonder if we should stop the type I and persue another project since their name will surely carry the day for them. Competition is good and the only consideration here is the overall size of the market for such an item. Be cool to see a chance to do a run to total failure test one against the other!

Agreed, maybe...... If their price is the same as ours then it will be a German rifle from a German company or a German rifle from a small American company which is also actually pretty cool. That said though if we had to drop our price just to sell a few rifles it wouldn't be good business at that point. It will just play out based on pricing and product - as it should - and the details will take care of themselves. Nothing to loose sleep over just try to make good decisions. There are LOTS of things to make and if you are going to try to make things and sell them then you have to expect this sort of thing. : )

The SSD line of guns will shortly be manufactured/assembled in the US.
It's been ongoing for about two years - so, not breaking news.
But, if I owned a PTR44 I would be pressing "return" on the GB ad, right now...

IF they are properly manufactured this time, I'm 100% in on one.

Believe it when I see it.

On a side note I will never sell my PTR44, It's been rebuilt (by the Master) with all original Mp44 parts that's something the new SSD rifles will never have.

If this does come to pass I would like to see the MKb42(H) being sold in the U.S. also these new SSD guns will have to come with a serious Warranty for me to ever consider owning another one.

I don't know what the price point on the Fg42's will be - or if they will market that model in any numbers -
It was around seven thousand euros in Germany, cannot imagine it would be cheaper to produce in the US.

But, I may be wrong about this - the guy running the operation is a member here, so I am sure all info. will be available when it's ready.

I hope he has learned the lesson of a thousand attempts prior to now, have a solid product before you say a word! Requires a lot of startup Capitol I imagine.

And no polymer mags!

I passed on Pitfighter's info over at Gun boards the other day
D-Day was one of the folks how gave me a hard time, as did other HMG fans
now that it comes from Pits mouth its all good! right

oh well

and we can call the so called MP-44 repair master PETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its no secret

Jesse e-mail coming

Well then they better hurry with a good product in the FG line as there might be enough price room between them and us to allow both to be sold. I am thinking we still come out with ours for 5k and even if theirs is a little closer to a copy we will sell rifles! We still have a couple of issues to iron out like the butstock and pistol grip stampings as well as a few minor "do we put it in or leave it out's" but we have two copies shooting to work things out so......
And my boy's opinion when I told them about SSD maybe doing an FG here as well was "so?". Gotta love younger folks attitude! Anyone know of a good place, or two or three, to get quotes on the buttstock stampings being done we are ready to solicit quotes. Thanks and Happy New Year!

D dog -

If you are thinking about selling, do so - try and get $8K

The over inflated PTR prices will soon cease to exist, as they will no longer be a commodity

Nah ... I paid well over $8,000 for everything in the list from my last post. If the PTR44 rifles are actually "selling" for $8,000 with just 1 frickin' mag. then I would be asking MUCH more for mine. I appreciate the thought though.

So ... "WHEN" the SSD guns become available here again, I would want to hear how they operate from an owner who has actually shot a couple 1000 rounds through it before I'd consider buying another product from them. Bottom line: I got burned and it took $1000s more in parts, postage and labor to get the rifle and mags. fixed. Faulty op rod piece, bad fitting mags., half a$$ built lower receiver, broken disconnector, broken safety, canted front sight post, dust cover fix ... I can go on. Trust me when I say that I want to see ALL the SSD guns built as TOUGH and long lasting as an AK47 and have this company be prosperous and make dough -- so they can make more !!! ... and Mkb42s. I would buy 1 of each of their products if so. But we all know how the saying goes: "burn me once - shame on you, burn me twice - shame on me". We (The PTR44 Club) have all had problems with these rifles -- I'm just that one loud mouthed bastard who bitches about it the most. :moon:

Miss you Wilhelm !!! Hey - you and Dave should come meet me at SOS in February, bitches !!!

Howdy Doug!!! Keep the faith brother!! I can't make it to the SOS. All my attention the past year plus has been on pulling mid century modern house back from the brink. Lots of firearm related things are on the back burner. I could have had a couple real MP44's for the cash I've put into this project over the past year. House is coming along though:

Nice crib bro! Seriously. Makes mine look like a coal miner shack. Oh wait, it is.

Agreed d-dog, gunna need to see some serious quality and robust supply chain before I buy, but I would love to have one!

Thanks Doug! HAHA.....I still have my game collection. I'm in the process of building another library so it's all in storage at the moment.

We're off topic. Let me get back on point with some MP44 porn:

apart??

You spent a lot of money on an "exact" (semi-auto) replica of a flawed and outdated seventy year old world war two machine-gun, not an improved design.

If you built it out of titanium it would still not work as efficiently as, or be as tough as, an AK 47 - !

My real MP44 came apart after 2K rounds on the last film, it was rebuilt quickly, but, it's just not a great design - iconic, yes, innovative, yes - tough, robust, no.

I'd be interested to know what came apart on your 44 Pit.
Weld fail? Original part fail?
Pete

Another reason the Germans were moving towards replacing the Stg44 with the Stg45 in the second half of 1945. That being said I do believe the MP43/44/ STG44 was refined enough to go well beyond 2000 rounds before a rebuild. As far as the AK47 being more durable well it better be as Kalashnikov had the advantage (and time) of developing a Rifle that was based on the work of John Garand and Hugo Schmeisser. To this very day I know of no other Assault Rifle that is more durable than the AK47.

This picture represents that development.

P.S. Nice home Wilhelm, to bad you still live in the Anti-Gun State of MD. (of course you seem to be able to circumvent all that, lol)
