PTR44 Semi-Auto MP44

Lots going on since I last checked the thread. Love the newly completed PTR/USA made/ Franken 44. Looks great !!! Also like the blond wood look for the stock. Hard to believe ppl are paying $8K for the PTR44 rifles. That's almost double what I paid for mine. But with the mods and extras I've bought, I'm almost ashamed to tell you what I paid for it (+ammo) -- it's been a lot more than I wanted, that's for sure. Thanks to Pete, mine is where I want it to be. He did a ton of mods to mine including the receiver fix, disconnector fix, canted front sight base, magazine fixes, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. It shoots great and has only had 2 stove pipes occur out of 200+ rounds that I've shot since I got it back from him.

Pete - with the price of the semi PTRs now you should buy some of those old part kits that need a new receiver and throw it in to make some money. I know it's a LOT more involved than that, but I would think when you're done, they'd have to sell for at least the semi PTR price. I know MP43sniper sold a rebuilt semi about 7 years ago or so for around 5-6K -- and that's looking cheap now. I for sure would pay a good price for a semi with a new receiver from you. ... hint hint ...

As far as the other news ... it would be nice to see how the HMG guns fair. I wish them the best of luck, but their rifle is simply not my cup of tea. Ian's a cool guy but he caters to the ppl who send him the guns to test. I remember his review of the PTR made it sound stellar, but then when he and another guy review the HMG rifle, they pretty much degraded the PTR to below standards of HMG's version. I wasn't impressed by that.

Dunno about buying up any parts sets now Dog. Look at what they are going for! Working on things for guys versus producing finished guns for sale is a whole different deal. I'm not a production guy anyway. Boredum sets in quickly. Working through varied fixes on different guns is my thing.
Heard today from what I think is a reliable source that the franken MP's that were much ballyhooed are having issues that could preclude another showing at the SHOT show. Been no deliveries so far per my source. Feeding and function problems it's said. If I get beatup for repeating gossip, so be it. WTF? Sturmgewehrs shoot 8 Kurz, not 300 BO, .223 or 7.62X39 anyway. Change barrels, change proprietary mags, change bolts? Buy a AR if you want to do all that so you can shoot (cheaper??) ammo?
Just sayin.

Mr Trump

I wonder what impact MR. Trump will have on the importation of semi automatics. I would like to get the SSD MKb 42 clone. Also, will parts kits come in again with barrels?

Pat

time will tell if he lifts the barrel ban and russian import ban

rumors have been circulating for years about the G-43's MP-40's and MP-44 still in russia who knows maybe just rumors

by then the SSD factory here in the US will be up and running and my MP-44 semi build will hit the range

I agree wholeheartedly, I even told the owner this on the running b*tch fest he started on weaponsguild. I told him he had the chance to make a fine american made MP-44 and instead produced junk, he went ballistic I did not back down after all this is America, and I'm a deplorable. his buddy Ian ( who the owner claims has not direct association with his product??????) would have jumped in, but he is banned from weaponsguild

I saw a post on gunboards yesterday, regarding these so called fine HMG rifles the gist of the story was where are these fine rifles?????

They seem like nice enough guys, out to make an American product.

My question is why?

The ONLY thing of any real significance to me about the MP44 is the historical importance of the Polte designed cartridge and it's effect on small arms design.

Everything else engineering wise has been (was) done better by Kalashnikov or Stoner.

The HMG would be an answer to a question no one has asked.

(If you're catering to a market that is too financially strapped to buy Kurz from Privi at $20 for 20, then making a firearm with a $2k+ price tag would seem foolish.)

Good point re the ammo Pit. Was out today and guys at my club range were going through bunches of 5.56 and 7.62X39 shooting 6 or 7 hundred dollar AR's and AK's. I doubt they would want a 1800 or 2K rifle to do that. But then it is said HMG has paid pre orders for a large number of guns so who knows?

I wish them well - going against the status-quo out and starting any new-business takes guts.
Hope they prove me wrong.

What Factory? Do you mean the SSD deal with another American builder that they can't seem to find. This B.S. has been going on for well over 5 years now.

It's funny SSD has product they what to sell in The U.S with no Factory and HMG has a Factory with (seemingly) no product to sell. LOL

If HMG would have catered to the MP44 builders crowd instead of some AR15 cheap skates, I bet they could have made good money on the side selling MP44 stock ferrules (maybe $200 each) and receiver flats (worth $500 to me). In the meantime they could have brought their MP44 clone to maturity. Water under the bridge now.

Looking at that picture of a HMG rec. stamping makes me think "wow, could have been made for a REAL MP44!!" Wasted effort as far as us fans of the real thing.

this is what I was trying to elaborate with the owner, only he pushed my buttons and I flew off. I am capitalist american business owner. I am all for someone starting a business and promoting a product. I even hope they succeed and find niche buyers

I just wont be one of them

I feel the same. The majority of clone buyers want clones, not alt caliber Frankenstein guns.
