New semi auto STG 44s being imported

yes you can replicate the colors you are looking for using simple products from home depot for that washed look as KSH67 indicated

example for a green color use a mix of phoshate based product and copper, zinc for gray, duller black/ gray use manganese, black use steel wool. use less or more amounts to obtain the finish you wish and of course using scrap sheet metal similar to that used on the mp-44

jack

Thanks - I'll try it out ahead on some scrap -

Try it on non-media blasted metal. I think one of the things that is different between parked and these old German phosphate finishes may be the overall texture of the metal. I was going to give it a try on an old Ak top cover that I will steel wool the finish off of and see how that goes. Be nice if we could replicate this. I have a bunch of stuff I would refinish this way.

several weeks back I posted a thread on another build site we both belong too on duplicating rust blue ( german) I did not post here because of the fakers, I have found a fairly inexpensive way to rust blue my east german ak variants like right out of Suhl ( yes I know the eg ak-74 was painted black)

here is a picture showing the results during on the left of a my wieger in 223 during the rust bluing process and after on the right on a another 223 made from EG ak-47 parts sort of tool room cross between the 74 and the wieger (stg 940)

I'll check it out -

I would even go for the last-ditch "white-metal" with the clear "varnish" except that you'd see the three "welded-up" scars on the receiver - !

I will go for the light green phosphate/park - I have to experiment, for the next project, which is a light green finish.

maybe a mixing of manganise and copper in different portions,

I would use the gauge metal the receivers are made from 28 gauge I think

copper?

Jack,
Are you saying that putting copper in the Park solution would give a greenish color?
Powder or filings ? Machining chips? In Zinc phos , manganese phos?

Interesting for sure. I've been into the Armalite AR18's and AR180's for a long time. Many of the Costa Mesa made guns have a bit of the greenish look to the Park. I doubt they intended that and it was just the Park solution used by them at the time, or perhaps a post Park dip.
There is a mil. spec. for Parkerizing that calls for a chromic acid dip after the Parking. Never tried that. It is likely hard to get the chromic acid in any event.

This Yugo (sourced) MP44 that turned up in Canada in a crate, was with other's that all had a distinctive green phosphate.

Late war blue job:

This is the green phosphate I am trying to replicate eventually:
(What I would give for those trigger parts!)

That is interesting in that one would not think whoever put that finish on those rifles did not go out of their way to make them greenish. Might very well be just how they turned out using whatever solution they happened to use.
Like the greenish Garands and M1Carbines or the Costa Mesa made AR18's and AR180's.

It would appear to be a consistent color with the Krieghoff factory G type FG42's - spanning a considerable production time - and not in the desperate measures period.

Have now handled four separate examples in European museums - one in Canada (+ one photographed in Canada), and two in the US.
(All handled and observed, not pics on internet)

We all know the situation with the MP44 late war finish, or lack thereof - but I believe the color was more of a choice with the Luftwaffe rifle.

I'm sure it will be somebody else in a few months. And then somebody else in a few months.......

Last time I got tired of waiting around, I ended up buying an NDM-86 instead. I figure I made out on that decision.

I wonder what I'll end up with this time? Those Tavor IDF models are looking pretty nice. Hmmmmmm.........

They don't jam and have properly made parts too. Hmmmmmmm...........

Or you could get a Steyr AUG. They are made in the US now. I got one two years ago and was impressed with the quality.

PTR44 still the only game in town, one of the valiant 200. These Rifles can become reliable if one is willing to strip out all original internals and replace with MP44 Parts.

For all of the heartbreak I had to put up with in the end I'm proud to own one. (that works) ;)

Only thing that comes close is the real thing.

HDH.

Hey actiondan - these two site links are still active:

http://www.waffenfabrikusa.com/ - The site importing SSD products.

http://hmgunworks.com/product/hmg-sturmgewehr/ - The site looking to produce the rifle in various calibers.

El-Be-Tac's site link is 404. Nothing new on Robarms (a rumored importer) either.

I've tried to get information from all these places, but no dice.

Honestly guys, I'm saving my coin for SMGs Type 1 FG42. If at all possible, Rick WILL build them - they are made in the USA -
and they are backed by the manufacturer.

I'm also getting prepared to spend some coin this Fall on a few mods I want done for my PTR44.

I'm not saving money on wishful thinking ever again. :googlie
