K98 find

Good question. I do get this a lot. My father is a big WW2 geek like me. He loves all of this stuff. So, he just buys it after I transfer the money, puts it under his name, and just lets me hold on to it. Nothing illegal or me trying to do something harmful, just a guy trying to get his hand on some antiques.

I’ve done this before, and I’ve never been called out

Well technically your standing right on the fine line so be careful. Don't give some anti gun types something to point to.

I looked at this auction and IMHO the numbers stamped on the bolt and bolt parts may not be factory original to that rifle.
 
Something does look off about the numbered parts on the bolt. They all look restamped. And of course, out of 52 photos, he doesn't take a single up close photo of the bolt and its components.

That's funny, because that's exactly what happened to me, so much so, that I ended up majoring in history with a concentration in WW2 and Post European Politics.

Also, I do think i might buy that listing that I showed in the first post of this forum. You guys said that it looked good, which is saying something because All I see on this forum is humped examples and disappointment. I’ll post it again down bellow. I know you guys said it was a little bit expensive, but I want to finally get a K98, and I have about 2,700 I’m willing to pay to get a K98. It’s been my lifelong dream to get one that’s all matching, and this one looks like it might be the one for me

I wouldn’t say the first one is faked, it’s accurately described as not matching. It looks to be a Yugo capture. No one is trying to fake anything on that one. As it sits now, the price is ok, but I know that won’t last because it’s gunbroker....

The second one is already overpriced and still has 10 days left. It’s a bolt mismatch that’s been reblued, pretty shitty if I do say so myself. To bad too because it’s a byf 42, an uncommon year/code combo.

Legacy Collectibles is a decent company, but they’re not too up on K98k’s.

To be honest man, I’d look elsewhere than gunbroker. Do your homework on these rifles and you’ll be able to pinpoint the details, good and bad. Imo, there’s no better place than here to purchase.
