K98 find

Yeah, I bet
I do want to ask, what does “bump the post” mean?

Eventually, as other people post in the trader section, it will bump yours down lower down the line (if there is no one posting in yours) and it can get overlooked. Simply going into your own post and putting “bump- still looking” or something like that will put yours back at the top. Just don’t do it too much, it can get annoying and some forums have rules on how often you can do it. I’m not sure if this one does actually, i haven’t really bumped lol.

Alright! Thanks man!
Also, my question about the first listing wasn’t answered.

No problem, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, that byf 43 looks correct, but for the condition it’s in (some blemished and pitting below the stock line) $2750 is quite high. In the end though, it’s your money so you can do what you want with it.

I purchased this byf 43 here on the forum for 2K and it is in a walnut stock, a little more uncommon than laminate. There are still deals to be had when dealing with fellow collectors!

Sorry, should have been more clear. I’m planning on a 2100 deal with him. I’ve been in contact with him for a while and that’s the price we agreed on pending the forum’s input.

Man, that rifle is definitely beautiful. It amazes me you were able to get a 1943 rifle and a walnut stock. Didn’t they change to plywood/laminate mid war? Also, How long did you have to wait to get someone to respond?
I struggle with waiting. It’s something I have to work on haha

Ahh, I got ya, well, you’re getting closer to a decent price. If you feel comfortable with it, go for it.

Mine is walnut, not birch ;-) You’re right that the Germans switched mainly to laminate by the early 40s, but walnut was sprinkled in here and there throughout the war. Even as late as 1945. Not as common as laminate, but they pop up here and there. Mauser-Oberndorf (byf) often used walnut and especially had a large batch in 1943.

It’s hard seeing all the great rifles in people’s collections and WANTING a nice one of your own as a new collector! But it’s worth being careful to get a legit K98.

Well guys, I seem to have an offer after posting my bump! I would like to convey the pictures to you guys, as you guys still know a lot more then I do, but I don’t know if there’s a rule regarding posting a PM and it’s pictures.

Good! I’d just ask the seller if it’s ok, but most of the time the guys here are fine with it and it is usually welcomed.

Alright! Just asked him
From what I see it’s a 1940 version, with a makers mark of 660 (Which I’ve never seen in my life)
The bolt looks to be original and serialized correctly. The bottom of the bolt also has a WA that looks correct, but obviously I would like your guys opinion

Post another thread with it so it doesn’t get lost in this post and I’m sure the guys here will give you some great info.

Alright, here they are. He’s selling the gun, the cleaning kit, and the bayonet for 2300 which includes shipping. Tell me what you guys think!

Hopefully this one will work out for you Jimmie. Know your dying to get your hands on a legit 98k but glad to see you came here to get knowledgeable responses from the membership. Your patience will pay off eventually with a legit rifle for your hard earned money. Glad you joined and looking forward to hearing more.

That one is looking good to me from the photos and the price is pretty decent given all the extras plus shipping. I'm sure some of the other guys will chime in as well.

I will say, at only 16, you have the right idea by coming to the right place and asking around before jumping in. And you have the right attitude! Guys more than half your age buy whatever they find, do the research afterwards, then get angry when something is wrong with their purchase.

Alright! Thank you guys! Your support means a lot to me, and it’s awesome to see that there are still some great people out there. I will wait a bit for some more opinions. The only thing that bothers me is the damage, but I think it’s probably not as bad as I think

Thanks again so much guys! It means a lot!
