The gun looks good to me jimmie. Price ain't shabby either. I have a 1940 myself but it is a Borsigwalde rifle my father brought back. Let us know what you decide.

Well, from all your guys info, I still a bit conflicted. I really wanna get an all matching that includes a sling and or a cleaning rod. The one from gunbroker has that, but the one from this forum doesn’t have a matching sling or cleaning rod, and it’s extra money on a bayonet that I already have

Why the rush? The forum is the place to buy. You're only 16! With the one from the forum, I doubt any 16 year old has a k98k nicer than the one posted.

Yeah, that makes sense. But, I’ve been working so much this past couple of months, ever since I got out of school to now, and I wanna get something that’s exactly what I want if I’m willing to put 2+ grand on it. The K98 from the WTB isn’t really what I want, and I’m not sure I would put down almost all of my money on it. I just really want something that’s what I’ve wanted, and the one that we’ve been talking about just doesn’t seem like the one I should put my money down on

Youthful exuberance, nothing wrong with that. I remember working all summer to buy a Fender Stratocaster when I was 16. I'm 32 now and I've replaced guitars with guns (though I still have the strat), and I still get excited with every purchase.

Personally, I think it's a nice rifle at good price. If I recall, your WTB was for a 40-42 any make, and that's a 1940 Steyr. What is it that you don't like?

In the end of the day, if it doesn't feel right, you should just wait for one that does.

Maybe you should hold off a bit if not 100% sure. I know you are wanting an all matcher but do you intend to shoot it? It is a personal opinion I know but I have not fired my dad's as it is all matching and if something did break or the stock cracked it might be repaired but would never be the same value wise. Years back I bought a 44 BYF mixmatcher R/C and used to shoot it occasionally. Nothing matched on the gun so I was not so concerned. It's your call to wait or not. One may even pop up with a walnut stock from the pre-war years. It is a good idea to buy from here as you are dealing with knowledgeable and truthful folks. Best regards.

What I don’t like is that it doesn’t have a matching cleaning rod, and a sling that was with the rifle. It’s also a bit beat up. I just don’t wanna spend 200 bucks more on something that isn’t what I ant, when I can just go to GB and get one that I want for 200 bucks less

Wise in my opinion! Also I have read rods were stamped or marked until around 1941 I have read in other posts. Rod on mine is the 12 1/2 inch variety. Hang in there and I know you will score one.

This is just my opinion and thoughts (and may only apply to me): When I was a teenager buying old military guns, I could not resist taking them apart and shooting them. Also, I didn't want to say, "I don't know how these guns shoot because I never shot this one or one like it." I wanted to experience shooting it.

So--as a young man, I would suggest you buy a "shooter" first--one you can use, shoot, take apart, and learn on. Then, when you get the good one, you will already know how to properly take it apart and clean it, etc. Also, you wont feel the need to shoot it, if you have a shooter already. Also, your friends wont be able to talk you into taking the matching one out to the farm or range to shoot it if you have another one for that.

If you buy a shooter first, you could always sell it after you buy the good one.

Holy crap guys. My books came in today and WOW! It absolutely blows me away! All of the time that the authors must have spent! I just baffles me how they got all of this information, as I thought that the Germans destroyed most of their documents regarding the makers in 1945 when the Russians were at their door. I’m guaranty I’m gonna have my head between these books for months to come! Thank you guys for the recommendation. It was so worth it

Amen to that. I got mine last week and am still blown away. The detail is incredible. I feel like I'm going to have to read through them four or five times just to have a foundation of knowledge.

Hey guys! I have another private listing from my WTB that I’m looking at. I’ll put the pictures down below. Put it to the book, but I still have some questions. Tell me what you guys think

So this gun is a K block, show in the pictures. It also has the date of 43 on it, but according to the book, it could have been “Diverted salvaged receivers from Mauser Berlin used in “I” and “K” blocks (Page 248, Volume 2a), which would have made it 1944, but it also confuses me because I do t see any reference on the gun to point it to Mauser Berlin. He’s asking 1500 for it, which seems like a great deal considering it being an all matching.
