$130,000 Luger

Legacy has the most expensive Luger I have ever seen for sale. Tom says it is the first Krieghoff ever made. Would like to here thoughts from people more educated in Lugers than myself.

A lot of red flags with that one. The 'G' is totally wrong, looks refinished, toggle knobs may not be beveled, etc. The straw work is particularly poor. Also note the really odd frame SN with the weird halo on the '0' only. Captured at Bastogne because of course it was.

That Tom didn't buy it for himself (this is a consignment) may tell you something.

I’m in no way, shape, or form a Luger or Krieghoff expert - I just enjoy good mysteries!

The G code is concerning. And just to thicken the plot, here’s a picture of Krieghoff #10:

It appears to be somewhere between the G on #01 (wide letter with the wide table on the “cross” of the G) and #95 (smaller table, narrower). Would they really have use three different stamps within the first 100 serials? 🤔

And just to throw more fuel on the fire, here’s a picture of #100:

It has the same G as #24 - which casts into doubt the authenticity of his #95…

The blue on the straw parts (which he pointed out) certainly looks like heat treatment.

Someone with deep pockets may well buy it, but I’m not sure what they’ll be getting!

Wouldn’t first few manufactured guns in any factory be used for some kind of trials and tests to make sure all work fine, instead of to be sent out to the customer?

Krieghoff Lugers are hands down the most faked military pistol in WW2 collecting. There are nice untouched examples out there, but I assume most of them have been messed with to one degree or another.

Don't know anything about this Luger, but to my surprise, I do know the guy in the video who owns it from some local shows here in WI. Had no idea he owned it, because he's not really a gun seller. Interesting.

I have seen very few German guns of any type with single digit SN, but I was surprised to see 01, instead of just 1.
As Ryan pointed out, the 0 on the front of the frame does not look contemporary with the 1.

The white paint in the “G” is original??? Surprised to hear that from a Luger expert.

The original captor of this Luger crawled out of American lines at night in the battle of Bastogne to loot a German body for souvenirs? Not buying that.

With the clown world we’re living in right now, why not? Reminds me of PT Barnum. These are all just my humble opinions.

You couldn’t convince me to buy ANY collectible Krieghoff Luger, the artistic fakers have been working them up for decades.

It was odd 95 was so nice despite having numerous dings on top and it was not hard to guess it had been messed with. Still, confirmation from book pics are very sad to see. Luger collectors are the worst.

it was very clear # 95 was refinished and 01 was not. If you look at the striations on the breach you can see its original finish. As with most german arms factories being set up to produce something they havent yet the first few examples are typically made by the gifting firm. Heck we even did the same thing when setting up 1911 production.

So HK got their tooling and machinery from who ??? I would say Simson if anyone.

The tooling was probably taken from Simson, which had earlier been taken from Erfurt. In Gibson's book, I think Krieghoff's son denies they used Simson tooling, but he probably wouldn't know and it seems really unlikely HK would invest in an entirely new set of tooling. The contract for a measly 10,000 pistols would not have been enough to justify the huge expense, even if they were hoping to get into bigger and better things.

I don't know exactly when Simson production shut down but I suspect it was done long before the transfer to Krieghoff in 1935.

And now there’s a story that there are two Krieghoff G-date #95’s…but the one in the video is really the correct one…. 🙄

I am willing to believe there are two SN 95 guns out there, but the one in the book is clearly the same one Tom owns that is shown in the video.

They shut the conversation off on the Luger forums because people were being big meanies to Tom and questioning that #95 too. Poor poor Tom.
