Bases, no. Forward rings are numbered to the rifle generally speaking. (Though Sauer numbered the rear ones as well) Jeff

The stock it came in - note the green pencil in the channel? It looks like a stylized "SS" one on top of the other. What connection to reality that has I have no idea. No finger grooves. Jeff

I know in modern (current) military aviation (US Army) there is an Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) shop that has an issue sewing machine and all the doo-dads to sew up equipment, survival vests, etc. It stands to reason that the ability to do stuff like that was also part of an aviation...
