Nice S14, Cyrus. The acceptance on the spine and side of the pommel is a crowned A. Samsonwerk S14 are observed with crown A or G; most are A. Some examples are also marked with the same A on top of the pommel as well as the face of the scabbard's frog hanging hook. The small stamping to the...
Black finished edged weapons were quite popular with officers especially on "extra" or "walking out" pieces. Not only during the First World War but also in the Weimar period and between the wars.
What a gorgeous piece! Thanks for sharing .......
The marking on the frog is L. L. G. > d. SATTLER WÜRTT. > STUTTG. 1937 for the maker Landes-Lieferungs-Genossenschaft der Sattler, Stuttgart, Württemberg. Looks to have have been refurbished (rivets/stitching) possibly period. Thanks for posting.
Maker information for frogs will not match that of the bayonet/scabbard. The marking on the frog is gjh > 4 for the firm of Rudolf Conte, Nachf., Theodor Seibod, Lederausrüst. u. Reiseartikel of Offenbach am Main (Hessen).
Yes, wood and phenolic grips were used by Hörster in the same years but the quality here is better as is the finish as noted on the scabbard and the bayonet. The blade blank markings would better date the piece if available.
I'm not sure there is anything empirical on this but in my opinion the cnx without WaA are later than those with the WaA. They are not however the last of the Appel made oilers.
Good eye Clément. If you enlarge the pics you can see this is a "two piece fat spout." Very scarce oil bottle...
The bayonet is by E u F Hörster as mentioned by Andrej. In my opinion the finish and machining is earlier than 1943 - '44. Wooden grips speak to this as well. $300 asking price is fair but bordering toward high market ....
Correct. There are arr coded cans dated '42, '43, and '44 without WaA. And late in 1944 until the end, all of the Braunschweig behälter are without WaA. The location of the arr4 marking helps date the can.
This is a great piece Ted. I am a big fan of the kS98 as well. Congrats and thanks for sharing. I have a cousin to your bayonet in my collection. The same configuration but from V. C. Schilling. Saxon issue with the strange AR 14 and wooden grips. This is a published piece as shown on page...
Chris mentioned this in another thread so I searched around and found it. Somehow I totally missed this one. Pushing it up to the top as perhaps others missed this gorgeous example in all its detailed glory ......
As chrisftk accurately stated, Kern's book is only available in the original German language edition. it is also nearly 20 years old. We have learned a lot since then. I am working on a new reference book specific to the Mauser Tankgewehr Model 1918. Information submissions are greatly...
