So full disclosure; I don't have any desire at all to own any live full autos (my WW2 MGs, Mp40, StG are all originals with display receivers), but have wanted an 08/15 display for a while and have been pretty specific about what I was looking for.

Since I'm a JPS fan, I really wanted to hold out for one of theirs that was a good demil and would display well. JPS was toward the rarer side of 08/15 production. About 10-11K produced out of a total of 130K so around 8%. (versus Spandau and Erfurt who had about 70% of production between them)

I snagged this one last week for a reasonable price and am pretty happy with it. It's one of the IMA conversions and it's one of the better ones I've seen from them. It even has an original bipod, which is a tough thing to find.

The preponderance of the parts are matching and the only distractions are the booster and steam port are repros and the lock is gone. There's maybe 2 mismatched small parts and the stock fitting is off a digit. (2740 vs 9274) The barrel is welded to the receiver, so I can't check that ##.

I did a detailed study and was really pleased with the number of markings and the trademarks.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting and fits well with my JPS obsession.

Very cool Chris glad to see you get this piece for your JPS collection. And it sounds like your in the same boat as me expect I have the Erfurt addiction lol. I do own a 1918 Erfurt 08/15 top cover to go with the Erfurt collection.

Good to hear a good report from IMA. They get a bad rap regularly. I typically want to buy their front page weekly. They've got old army junk I really like (19th century stuff). Really nice pick up and hopefully I'll find the right Mg08/15 one of these days.

Yeah, they are a mixed bag for sure, but the items I have bought I've been pleased with. I've bought a couple antique rifles-most of the time they are overpriced mixmasters but if you are patient a nice matching one pops up for the same price (I've bought a nice m71 and a Gew88). In addition, some of the inert ord they get is great, while some, not so much.

Like any dealer, you just have to be careful.

I had seen this earlier, thought it most interesting, especially for the sub-contractors, a couple I recognized (Ehrich & Graetz, Fritz Werner and Siemens & Halske, all of Berlin), the centaur trademark looked familiar but I couldn't find it in my database... w/o a location (city or state) its impossible to search through it all.

ALso, this is the first JPS 08/15 I have recorded, outside of books anyway.

I'd give odds that the C/J is Danzig related, they made parts and this is probably one of theirs as they are known to use the Latin C/J late in the war.

Thanks Paul-- I'm hoping to check in on a few of the trademarks that i didn't recognize off hand. This was definitely a treasure trove of subcontracted parts, not unlike the early Sauer k98ks

Ima

IMA now that is a name from the past. I always liked their adds in Shotgun News. But since I dropped SGN years ago I had totally forgot about them. They used to have some nice things at a good price. Remember they tried a TV show but it didn't last long.

NICE addition to the collection Chris! Believe it or not when I was 8-9 years old, I wanted my father to buy me one of these priced at $50.00. It was seating on display atop of an Antique Shop in the Atlantic Highlands, NJ where we anchored our boat in the summer. Unfortunately, in the late 50's, fifty dollars was a lot of money and I wasn't able to get the 08/15. Instead, my father bought me a couple of spent 50 cal. shells. I was happy at that. At the age of 73, I still want one of these bad boys.
