Great condition , I have always wanted a Gew98 in this Cond.I have only seen 2 other in state of cond. in my 20+yrs collecting . Bruce or John Speed would be able to verify if in fact this came out of Mauser factory collection . I would not care one way or the other given the cond. of this beauty

Freidi , I am in agreement with what Georg said in his post . There is some things that cause me much concern . force matched serial on front ring , serial on receiver which to best of my knowledge it should not have and the blueing .

Who ever took the Scope apart they installed the Saddle & Dial on incorrectly thats all . The Saddle can be removed and put on in correct way thats not a issue at all

I would also like to see pics of the Mount also if You don't mind because the owner of the rifle that I showed the one photo of told me that a typical LSR Mount will not fit on his rifles base . Does the mount on your rifle match the rifle ?? .

Here is a pic of the Base from the Rifle in the linked thread , its number to rifle same as other known originals in data base , if You notice the stock inletting is the same on these variants stock have a small inletting channel rather than a cut out .

Stay Away , the Scope Rings and Bases are not original nor are they original to the barreled action IMO , the Serial # on Front Ring is not even in correct location for a High Turret The Barreled Action/Base Rifle MAYBE an original but You would need much better detailed photo to help determine...

I don't believe Amberg/Wolfgang is disputing the Oct/Nov 1944 period rather he's not convinced if it is actually Reg.18 in Norway . From his earlier research Reg.18 was no longer in Norway at this time . It could be another Reg. which is what he is trying to determine .
