This is really getting out of hand..

I'll say it here also, you are being a bit unfair to this guy. He didn't ask for us to evaluate the authenticity of this rifle. He asked for a opinion on value. So he does need to be beaten up about it.

And it is not unheard of for some older guys to not want people to take pictures and post them to the internet. I know older guys who are just scared of the unknown. This simple fact doesn't make the rifle bad.

I got some slack on milsrup.com because I posted a thread asking for M1 Garand price opinions. People wanted to see pictures, and even accused me of "fishing" so I could sell my own rifle. Sometimes people just want to know a value and can't share pictures. Just ask CanadianAR, he went in head first and threw down some virtually punches for me.

I think the way his post was worded was a little tricky. Had he stated it as, "I'm looking at x rifle and I believe it's honest, what is the going rate?", then all replies would have swayed toward a value. But being worded like it was seemed to elicit the responses it did.

In my opinion, adding the little bits of unnecessary info about the stock, the seller and his resistance to pictures, and the seller's price, was what swayed my response the other way.

Would the responses have been different if he had stated $400? How about $1500?

I agree too that no real information was really offered for a value estimate on this rifle. Only thing I got is its 1940 42 coded K98k rifle in a nice walnut stock with matching numbers on the metal. How much is this worth?

I guess lots of money or not lots of money. More info is needed if no pictures.

What kind of stock bands does have ,what letter block, what kind of butt plate, what kind of floorplate, hows the bore, is the stock matching, is it a Luft rifle, hows the finish, has it been reworked, does it have paperwork, does it have a cleaning rod etc.

Thats why I hate giving value for guns sometimes. I don't want too give someone a value estimate without pictures or more info. Then they buy it, post it, and find out its not what they thought it was. Then they blame me saying but you said it was worth this. Plus I was not a big fan of the response "I am confident in my knowledge of determining what looks to be messed with or otherwise faked. This looks to be a fresh out of the closet piece. Your responses are no help."

Well alright. Then good luck then you must know what your buying then. Is how I took that.
