Super War Eagles!

These were issued to the older Volkssturm troops who couldn't see well without glasses. None of the men were willing to fight without knowing how many war eagles they had, so this was a late war improvement. Too bad it wasn't instituted in the factories, collectors everywhere could rejoice.

Weren't these (triple double-eagles) actually a result of Goebbels seeing a US Ordnance Corps stock cartouche, and getting jealous over the size? That stock looks like it came from a GI Joe set with those stamps.

Why is that?

Because the stock markings are not original. Unless you agreed to pay $300 or less for the rifle, you should either back out of the deal and not send funds, or insist on a refund and ship the rifle back.

That must be an April fools joke. That rifle is still listed and I can't imagine that anyone who visits the forum would be so duped by such a shitshow as that rifle.

I was able to back out. I'm in the market for a K98. Is there any legit ones left? I'm new I at this...I know...thanks guys for helping me avoid a mistake.

Serious question which will assist us in our endeavors to help new collectors - what convinced you about that one? Was it the fact that it has over 5 war eagles, or the fact that the war eagles were very large and easy to see? Did the size of the war eagles influence your decision to choose that particular rifle? Or did the war eagles have no affect on your decision? I ask because it's been years since I was a new collector and perhaps your answers can help others. If you don't feel like answering I understand, just doing market research.

Being ignorant it was attractive to put it simply. I learned a lesson.

No shame in that. As a new collector, the visuals are what attract us to things. Sellers appeal to that, which is why I think this seller stamped rather large war eagles on the stock, to get the attention of a newer collector that may not know enough and make an emotional decision. You are not alone- nearly everyone on this forum has probably done what you just did, either that or they are lying. Even I did -on my first Yugo rework 98k I was enamored because it had 4-5 waffenamts still left on it. I spent hours studying that thing - today I use it as a shooter and barely look at it.
