You are correct Rick it is a WW1 Scope . If I am not mistaken the Scope is a Dr Walter Gerard Charlottenburg .

I also thought this one was reenactor, but hard to tell, but the crates and mannerisms of the fellow and flora have a US east coast vibe to me.
You pointed out the same things that really make me think it not legit . I thought about buying this photo wen it was listed a few years back but as you say the flora kept me from doing so .
