That's what I am trying to figure out take the helmet with the feathered contrived wear. If that wasn't there and instead there was random wear how would you tell it is fake.

So M45 has left the building and now the self imposed experts or inmates are running the asylum?

who died and left him king of all helmet judging ? Anyone can do what he did. It's not that hard. It just takes time and effort two commodities a lot of us don't have.

The discussion is an important one and I feel it should be kept going. He's not the only one capable.

Your posts were not missed believe me...:ban:

With all collecting if something looks wrong or too good too be true it probably is. I have went my gut and knowledge for over 10 years and have been burn one time on a rifle. And it was not a huge loss and I learned a lesson.

M45 is to be commended for his work and advocating on behalf of integrity in the hobby. I don't agree with every position he takes, but neither does everyone agree with mine. That's why we don't censor our way to a sycophant consensus here.

In my opinion, some people who didn't like having turds called out decided to firebomb this thread until it died. It seems to me that rather than attacking or defending these prized camo jewels, some people instead just personally attacked the man who was expressing his opinions about them. Use your own judgment here.

The problem with the strategy of creating chaos and fighting to get a thread locked doesn't work here because we don't censor and rarely thread lock. I believe that people can read what they want or not, by clicking or not clicking on a thread. If they find a particular poster offensive they can simply utilize the control which makes those posts unseen.

The reason of being here was just to desacredit to somebody called "expert" or even "God" ( they are probbs written by himself) that having written ( or even just copied) a book, pretended to judge and injury to people who owns camos.
We just tried to give him his own medicin, and it was very succesful since after writting a lot nr book, somebody posted a very nice M40 Heer, genuine, of cource, and instead asking for lot nr. he sentenced that decal was bad. Obviously he shown his "real " knowledge and shown how his entire thread was a joke.

Really was funny to fight with this person since the moment that his real knowledge was absolutely nothing as he shown it here :biggrin1:

It's almost like people are trying to prove my point for me. It was a crap quality photo of a decal in a thread discussing camo helmets. If that's what you gotta do to feel good about your collection, cool, good for you man. The rest of us can look at these exotic freshies and fall to the floor laughing.

I would say that I'm a person who is not a neophyte to camo helmet collecting. I have a pretty decent collection of them, which I started buying in the mid 80s. Not that collecting a long time means one is more advanced knowledge-wise, but it doesn't hurt. I think I'm pretty discerning and research a good bit. I've seen, handled, and own a number of originals. I've examined and am familiar with the fakes. I don't agree with all of M45's opinions, but I agree with M45 more than I don't.

Important to the value of this site is that even on those calls I don't agree with M45 on, his opinion is valuable for the purposes of discussion, analysis, and knowledge. I've seen the majority at WAF bless "exotic freshies" which IMHO were ridiculous clown humpjobs, while they attacked, condemned, and silenced those who didn't chant "wow" and "one looker" and " " . I've seen the same attacks, and ultimately censorship, of some of those who dared to openly question whether the Champagne Rune was an airbrushed fake and who doubted the claims of "XRFacts". Was that good for the hobby? That's not happening here.

Shutting down questioning that the "Champagne Rune" was an airbrushed humpjob (years ago) and predicting that an XRFacts lid tazing and COA fee would be required by all of us to sell a helmet....attacks, censored posts, locked threads IMHO protecting the two biggest boondoggles in helmet collecting in my lifetime...... So I ask you who attack M45: Is it better to attack and censor the minority, sometimes of one, who have differing opinions from the majority, and get results like the Great Champagne Rune Fraud and " Nutmeg " telling us that XRFacts is the future of the hobby :googlie or is open and uncensored debate preferable?

I wonder if lightning ever struck him? I'm guessing not...

Looks like the fake GI M-1 helmet stuff died down. I hope it ended up doing some good, that it makes people question stuff. How many damned 101st Airborne medic helmets with captains bars can there possibly be? I'm a paranoid dude, so because of that and the market in general, I can count on one hand the helmets that I believed to be 100% real. It's a shame that this shite happens, but I'm glad it's coming out.

This happens when forums attack and censor to support an opinion which becomes a majority opinion which then becomes unassailable "conventional wisdom". If we ever get it wrong here it won't be because differing opinions were attacked and censored.

While I commend Hambone and the leadership of this forum for doing what they do, I find it interesting that you post a screen shot
where "nutmeg" is defending Hicks by ending his praise in: "besides, hes a great guy"

I questioned,,,yes "only questioned" RonR's helmets and I was jumped all over,,suspended and spit on,,,,
and all the while,,no one would defend any of Rons helemets only bash me by saying hes a "great guy" and a "Gentleman"

and I'm sure he is,,,I'm not now nor have I ever questioned his integrity,,I dont even know him! never met him!
I just asked about his "one of's" his ridiculously wild camo's,,(if they are real,,then they are spectacular)
but I doubt them,,just asked a question and bam,,,expelled with extreme
prejudice,,,

anyway I digress,,,Thanks for doing what you do

I think with Ron he is not selling things or COAs etc. He's just sharing from his extensive collection for all of our benefit, not his profit. He's always been a gentleman from what I've observed. None of us in this hobby to a significant extent have lids loved by all. Thank you, we take pride in our opennness here but the community is responsible for it. I wouldn't be tolerated here if I did any different and that's what makes the site successful.

It matters not that he's selling them,,its the fact that everything he posts is an automatic thumbs up because of who he is
(or what he is) I dont know,,,also,,what he's doing (either knowingly or or not) is setting up his heirs as his collection will be worth thousands
once he expires,,or decides to liquidate as every lid will be deemed the greatest as it was once form the "RON R" collection and thats what really grinds my gears

absolutley no proof of authenticity other than "he's a great guy" a true "gentleman"
:facepalm::barf:

Thats why I asked the question,,and sphyillus was on me like stink on SH*t

Sometimes it's better to quit while you're ahead?

Just sayin'

There is absolutely no friggin' reason to disparage someone who spent his life in this hobby and who is not out to make a buck. What you are suggesting is appalling and says more about you than anything else.

"We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

W. Churchill
