I was referring to the RIA auction in September. The last price on a RIA one was close to $20K. The latest one sounds like the same description but less two mags. Even so the estimate is higher by a couple thousand.
 
Are you sure you're not looking at the 2019 auction?

Yes it was Saturday. That price also includes a buyers premium. I think $12K was the winning bid and then $13,800 was final price with the premium included. Interesting they were the exact same just two years apart.

Now I am starting to get nervous about taking mine to the range. I bought some brass and have dies but will need to be extra careful working up a load if I do.

Also someone with an SOT converted one to full auto. The auction ended with no takers at $13,995. So there is one less semi-auto out there!
 
I am watching that one but didn’t know if discussing current auctions was frowned upon. Since you brought it up! I am defiantly wondering how the gunbroker auction will go. The last three or four that sold between $13K-$20K were all on Rock Island Auction. GB is a different auction format but I am not sure they both attract the same bidders.

I would agree with that. It seems RIA, James Julia and other top auctions are well publicized and draw bidders with deep pockets.
 
So when Rock Island auctions one, it is in the catalog and bidders have a month to get ready for the auction. On Gunbroker you need to set up alerts and probably only have a week to 10 days to bid if you knew about it. What are the different fees from each? I thought the one converted to full auto would have more interest but I guess since it is not transferable to anyone who is no an SOT, the pool of buyers is actually a lot smaller.

Its crazy and maybe a little sickening the difference of price between. SOT and transferable guns. Like a decimal place, sometimes 2.... makes a fella really dream about the Machine Gun infringement act of 86

That's a fact. Transferables vs. pre or posties is a HUGE difference mainly because of the pool of potential buyers. Even 'law letter' vs. not is a pretty significant price difference.
 
So just for discussion purposes! If the GCA were repealed and new production full autos were now transferable. What would happen to the values of the pre 86’? I mean they would still retain collector value, maybe not lightning links or auto sears, but Colts, and MP44s? There are just as many WWII MP44s out there today than there would be after repeal. Maybe a dip due to people buying other new full autos but would a 1920’s Tommy Gun or other historical guns drop in value?

I would stake all my worldly possessions that this will never happen. It would require a complete overhaul of the government along with hundreds of other very impactful legislation.

Although I believe many would agree this is very much needed.

I suppose a person can't choose being born at a very odd time in technology advancement and large changes in society

100% I was just talking to Pete the other day about this exact thing, I feel so fortunate to have been buying them before this insane price wave. I’m not priced out of the market, but I have a lot of heartburn now paying more than double what I paid for my transferables 5 years ago.
