    Well I suppose many stocks were turned into look more like cut down sporters back in the 50s or early 60s when these rifles were of little interest or value to collectors. Probably a lot cheaper than buying a Win. Model 70 or Rem. 700 for a hunting rifle. Still a real shame in hindsight though.

    Yeah what the hell is up with this stock cleaning, polishing, and glazed donut look. Wish I had a buck for every one I have seen. Obviously don't realize they are destroying value. Pretty don't cut it on 98s
