Damaged G33/40 - Matching Bolt, Renumbered Wood

I picked up this G33/40 yesterday from a local gentleman. The bolt is matching to the receiver and appears original to the gun. However, the stock is pretty beat up. It is what it is and I'm quite pleased to own this example. The rifle came to me quite dirty, but I was extremely happy to see...

Resin stock 243 code 1937 date

Sorry to resurrect such an old post, but I know the current owner of this rifle and it’s more beautiful in person. Maybe next time I visit, I’ll get it to the light box to take some better photos of it.

    Gewehr 98 night sight

In my experience with radium painted watch hands, the phosphor is still somewhat alive. A bright flashlight will cause them to glow for a little bit. I think the radiation damages the phosphorescent material over the decades and causes the glow produced by the radium to be imperceptible.

Opinions and pattern association is the only way to interpret these markings in the absence of period documentation. Much like the police circle S, we can only hypothesize its meaning on patterns we observe on reported examples.

One thing that was left unanswered by the supporters of flamethrower origin is why was commercial proofing applied to pistols? If it was simply the addition of a unit mark, there would be no reason to reproof the pistol. Yes?

I can agree with you there regarding Vlim and your positive outlook on the variant’s future. Part of it may likely be due to the rise in popularity and knowledge of k98k - big thanks to Mr. Karem and Mr. Steves on that one. The section in Volume I is what made me take a look at the P08 DHs and...

I like the way you describe the situation. The majority of the gentleman on Still’s forum are exclusively pistol collectors. For rifle collectors, it seems obvious there is some similarity between the Gewehr reworks and the DH lugers. It makes sense that they would question the comparisons to...

I was tempted to say something similar about concrete documentation for E/L,C or even E/655,135 as Ryan had (I didn’t want to Vlim to close the thread haha). The interpretation of police proofs or any other marking in the absence of written evidence is inference based on observed patterns...

    Question 98K

We need some more pictures in some diffused light (maybe indirect sun or when cloudy outside. I’m really having a tough time in the metal here. It doesn’t look like much of the original polishing marks or geometry have been disturbed, but the stock disk and the polish do look a bit funny.
