How to determine if mounts are original or reproduction.

I have an almost identical loose base set with screws, no Wa135 on the rear, same finish. There is an upper case "H" in the bottom of the "pot" of the front base and the typical "WR" proof in front. Value will be one of two things, like Dave said - a guy that needs a set will pay more, less so...

    Late Phosphate Radom

Excellent pistol, it seems every time I run into a Radom for sale, it looks like it was pulled out of a pond. Nice. Jeff

Ajack SS Dienstglas on SSR - arsenal reserialized

I, for one, have always struggled with sniper stuff, it is what I love and gravitate toward, but it is a real challenge collecting data and learning new things in this field. I have been into snipers for many years, starting off with a couple scopes and little else. There were no books besides...

    Late LSR scope can

That's it, same can, no doubt. 550 Euro? That's pricey! I paid $200, but no windage key with mine. I do have a repro base cover, but it is hideous. At least I have a representative example for one of the LSRs. I'll find a real one someday! Now the strap, on the other hand, maybe I...

    Late LSR scope can

Yeah, unfortunately Georg put the final nail in the coffin for me! Thanks for your comments, Georg, they are always welcome. It sure is a nice repro, however. These must have been made on original tooling from some source, or found parts. I would think it would be prohibitively expensive to...

    Late LSR scope can

Thanks, Georg. I hold out some hope, but that seems like evidence it may not be original. Jeff

    Late LSR scope can

Brian, I really like yours. One telltale thing is the blobs of paint added over the Wa after stamping. My strap looks very nearly identical to one of yours. Also, I did not realize the HT can was smaller, I somehow recall a discussion somewhere that maybe the smaller cans were low turret cans...

    Proper rifle care

Church, yo. We cleaned our rifles to DEATH in the Army, just an institutional silliness, discipline taken a step over the pale. Just a bunch of excessive, artificial wear. TACCOM in Balad, Iraq told us to just POUR clp on everything, and keep rockin' in combat. Jeff

    Late LSR scope can

I picked this up on epay about a year ago (?), it was listed as a repro, after a LOT of research, I thought it was good, so I bought it. I ran it past a few of you here privately, but here it is, of note are the "jvb" and Wa stamps, and their positions, paint, wrinkles in the lid stamping...

And furthermore, Georg, I do appreciate you taking the time to photograph and share all these pieces in your collection, without all the sharing we all enjoy here, we are all far worse off as hobbyists. Jeff

Ajack SS Dienstglas on SSR - arsenal reserialized

Same here, Georg, I would add something if I had anything of substance to add! I have to admit I have been passed over many times in relation to the knowledge out there on snipers, for years I struggled to find any new info, now it is everywhere, and good info and good photos thanks to the...

    Proper rifle care

60 rounds rapid through a K98k? Jeebus. Ouch. Ballistol for my K98k's, CLP for the modern stuff. Hoppe's #9 to clean bores on both. Jeff

    MP.40 period pics

Pic 4 of 14 in your original post, Craig, such a thing to see everyone set their weapons on the bipod mounted MG at rest...as an infantryman, and M60/M240 gunner we all chuckled at how the boys would lay their rifles against our MG's, because you NEVER laid them on the ground, but stacking...
