Late LSR scope can

I Like Bunnies
I picked this up on epay about a year ago (?), it was listed as a repro, after a LOT of research, I thought it was good, so I bought it. I ran it past a few of you here privately, but here it is, of note are the "jvb" and Wa stamps, and their positions, paint, wrinkles in the lid stamping, seams, and lid hardware. Also the strap, the clasps, are critical and, I believe, correct.

I believe it is good, opinions welcome. But if you say it's bad, please indicate why. I know these are a difficult collecting item.

First are the seller's pics I saved, I can take pics of any areas anyone wants better imagery of.

Jeff

Hello Jeff. I really like the can and it is original in my opinion. The only way I have been able to tell on the straps is the clasp size and type of material. Thanks for posting.

Strap Hooks and Different Size Cans

Here is a photo of my straps. These are two different strap styles I have. One of my friends has the same two strap styles as well. Also two different can sizes. The tan can is considerably smaller. The green is a LSR Can and The Tan is a Turret can. Let me know your opinions.

Could you possibly post a picture not showing the scope case from an angle but from straight looking at it? Especially want to see the metal strap with the D rings at the end since this is differently made on the high end French reproductions than on original German scope cases. The metal bar between the D rings on the French reproduction is thicker (around 15,5mm) and nearly touches the enforcement ribs whereas on German originals the bar is not so high (12mm) and there is a clear spacing between this bar and the reinforcement ribs.

Brian, I really like yours. One telltale thing is the blobs of paint added over the Wa after stamping. My strap looks very nearly identical to one of yours.

Also, I did not realize the HT can was smaller, I somehow recall a discussion somewhere that maybe the smaller cans were low turret cans?

Thanks for posting.

Georg, here are some more pics. The bar is in fact 15.5mm wide.

The dimension you give as well as the position of the bar is identical to the one of the French reproduction. I do not from this conclude that it is one of them, but all of mine of which I am 100% sure to be original German WWII have the smaller bar at the higher position.

Thanks, Georg. I hold out some hope, but that seems like evidence it may not be original.

LSR tan can

Hello guys,
Have you ever seen an original ww2 lsr tan can before ?
If yes, I would be very happy to see pictures of it and compare to this one . I am pretty sure that no one has such pictures.
Best regards

Hello Jeff. Mine tan can is the smaller version. There are large tan Turret cans.

I did not notice that your can was a LSR can. Would be first tan one I have seen like it.

Yeah, unfortunately Georg put the final nail in the coffin for me! Thanks for your comments, Georg, they are always welcome.

It sure is a nice repro, however. These must have been made on original tooling from some source, or found parts. I would think it would be prohibitively expensive to tool up for such an expensive assembly for such a niche product. Tooling is expensive. Maybe someone had shells, and added the hardware, or something along those lines?

Jeff

That's it, same can, no doubt.

550 Euro? That's pricey! I paid $200, but no windage key with mine. I do have a repro base cover, but it is hideous.

At least I have a representative example for one of the LSRs. I'll find a real one someday!

Now the strap, on the other hand, maybe I have a winner there?

The Strap I can not say oneway or the other , because I do not own an original . I should not comment on something I know nothing about .

You did not do wrong at your price, doesn't mind if original or reproduction. You could easily sell it as reproduction for more than what you paid, so no worries.

Stories such as these are always the reason why I sometimes buy reproductions when they are offered. I keep them as references to compare them with originals and see what they did not copy properly. Makes collecting more expensive and some people wonder why you buy reproductions, but obviously my idea works.
