Mauser Oberndorf 71/84 8mm rimmed prototype rifle

I haven’t had the rifle in hand, yet. Looking forward to seeing it. From what Bruce has said, I don’t *think* it is part of that batch.

Mauser Oberndorf 71/84 8mm rimmed prototype rifle

I didnt post anything last night because it looks like a frazzled cat with a beret to me. Or one of those monkeys. . . A lemur? Not really helpful :ROFLMAO:

    Pile of “Wood”

Since Bruce let the cat out of the bag, with his assistance, encouragement and goading I have been working on developing K98k forends. It has been a long, tedious, and expensive endeavor. A few comments in response to what has been said here. New manufacture k98k stocks are, in my opinion, not...

Suhl Consortium M1849 Marinegewehr / City of Philadelphia

I just love stories like this. Put this in modern context and consider it for a minute. Amazing.

Weird crap you find in old guns

I'll have to see if I can find the picture. I got a batch of bolts in, and inside the bolt was a dead bug. Apparently it had hatched in the bolt, but became to large to crawl out? In regards to finding metal shavings, I have FREQUENTLY found metal shavings in parts. More times than I can...

    Is this Gewehr 88/05 Turkish?

Watch gunbroker, there are similar condition rifles regularly selling for under $500 that are not Turks.

ID help with Kettner Sporterized Mauser? Could it be a .318?

The bottom of the barrel will have gauge markings. They will tell you relatively what the bore diameter is, but you will still need to slug it if intending to shoot it. As Cyrano mentioned, a lot of times these guns can be modified so it is good to double check. As a good example a friend...

    1918 Danzig K98a 1920 marked

I probably have a pin type rear sight if you prefer, I will have to check. The bolt looks Polish to me, possibly Spanish rework. Just guessing based on what I've seen. If you strip the bolt down, it would give us a better idea. I do have a Imperial marked Kar98 bolt, I'll message pictures later.

    1918 Danzig K98a 1920 marked

I've been planning on making a batch of both front and rear band screws. Just haven't gotten around to it as there is not a lot of demand. I have several front band screws, but no rear band screws currently.

    1915 VCS 4674e Rastatt Rework

A random rant. . . . I offered to rent a microfilm scanner, it was insanely fast, converted each slide into a jpg and or pdf file. At my own cost. And donate the digitized files either to NARA/NPS and or publish or host them for free. I was told no, because that presents ownership issues...

Gewehrfabrik Oberndorf muzzle loading pistol - potentially Hessian m56 cavalry pistol

One of my biggest problems as a researcher (because I'm a terrible one!) is that I get easily distracted and often travel down a multitude of paths that have nothing to do with what I am researching, or maybe might possibly be related, but without exploring you don't know! That being said, I...

Far from an expert, which is why I collect books!!! I happen to have this one, which has a little information.

Mauser 1893 w/ Small Cracks Near Recoil Lugs

They did. Original contract rifles had a straight grip, with no recoil lug, which you can occasionally find. Here is an example: https://simpsonltd.com/turkey-model-1893-c52996/ The Turks refurbishment programs were widely varied. Some 1893's retain there front ring, some have rings added...

Mauser 1893 w/ Small Cracks Near Recoil Lugs

    Personally I recommend Devcon 10110.

Mauser 1893 w/ Small Cracks Near Recoil Lugs

This is a turkish made stock, and yes, almost all of them have this issue due to several contributing factors. If you want a shooter, the best recommendation is to devcon bed the action, skim bedding the complete action and heavily bedding the rear tang and the recoil lug.

More Concerns With My GEW 88

TN Time sent me these pictures yesterday. As everyone will see this is a German military barrel, and the Z is a inspection/process mark.

M1907 Chinese Contract Mauser (German Issued)

Great post Chris, thanks for taking the time to update. In regards to the original barrels being bored out or replaced, for your example in hand, a few pictures of the barrel markings will tell if it is original bored out or replaced.
