WW2 German Mess Kit (Messkit) Reference Thread

Thank you! There are several facebook groups committed to this research but things like maker codes are easy to find online, as well as books. I do not. There is no evidence tying DEF to the blue enamel messkits and canteens besides dealers liking to tie a famous factory to these unknown...

    WW2 German Canteen Reference Thread

Very good condition OHW (Otto Honsel-Werke, Aluminiumwerk, Werdohl) marked canteen dated 1940 on the bottle, cap, strap, cover, and hook with a 1939 dated cup, 1 year deviations are very common, bottle is excellent, cover retains ink stamps for both factory and cover subcontractor EA, strap is...

    WW2 German Canteen Reference Thread

Excellent condition 1944 dated and maker marked MN round late stamp primed steel bottle, very good condition painted and primed "second pattern" MN43 marked steel cup, these are seen on late MN1944 and sku1945 marked canteens and are likely a rejected batch of 1943 made cups that were later...

    DK Production MP44

To my knowledge, only the MP-43/1 has any sort of manufacturing differences (MKB42 barrel, front sight post, muzzle nut, buttstock), while MP-43, MP-44, and StG-44 is only different in nomenclature?

SOS Hotel change for some of us

I typically buy the cheapest Hotel in the area the week or so before the event when prices start to drop to fill rooms (First time was the Howard Johnson and second time was the Studio 6) , but would totally love to swing by Thursday night after the show!

    BNZ 42 Bolt looks bad

Safety appears to be the wrong type as well. Correct me if I'm wrong but on all of my Steyrs (several 41's) they all use the simplified profile. I don't think Steyr ever DID use the earlier curved profile.

Karabiner 98k Volume IV - Book Addendum

Several of the rifle tables seemed to be missing information, and information regarding bayonet lugs seemed to be missing from manufacturers. For example there was a section for each maker regarding band markings, sights, etc, but nothing really photographing or mentioning bayonet lug serial...

    1914 Amburg blood stains?

Blood stain is as much a anecdotal sales pitch as "Vet Bringback", "Captured from a Dead SS Colonel", "Grey Ghost", and "Black Widow". Odds are literally anything but blood stained these items that are stored 100+ years after a war. Its safe to assume that 99.99% of "blood stains" are anything...

SVW 45 P.38 and Phosphate Mag Question

Reminds me of those reduced thickness C-mpu marked stripper clips for the K98, very cool piece never knew these existed. mauser99 makes a good point, this is the exact reason we see ribbed Mp40 magazines begin to appear as well.
