ZG 1229 Vampir somewhere?

to keep this thread alive see attached my pouch reference collection. Last weekend I found a pouch of a yet - to me - unknown maker, so I am happy that I am a slow worker.

As for the groundfound Vampire on ebay, this went into French hands and is not available for making pictures so my inquiry is open. I have made pics of 2 found in lakes, but they are in restored condition. The one pictured in the British brochure has later been taken apart for examination and parts were discarded.

I think there was one in the Aberdeen collection which is now sitting in cases at Ft. Lee, VA. I was in the museum in Aberdeen about seven or eight years ago. I think i remember one on the first floor of the main display area.

Michaelangelo

The Ordnance museum at Aberdeen never had one on display (they did have the early US IR scope though).

I even talked about the ZG1229 to the curator of the museum at the time, Dr. Atwater, and he never heard of it.

Maybe they do have one stored away somewhere.

It's too bad the French guy who bought the dug up one is not sharing any info.

Hello my english is not that good so I try to translate it with google. My name is Robert and I come from Northern Germany. Here is written about the French who won the auction on ebay about the vampire. Two years ago I was lucky enough to get to know him and thanks to him we can manufacture the ZG1229 Vampire in its original size today, because he made the device available to us because there is unfortunately too little about it and the demand on the internet is very high.

Well Robert, you have my attention. Do I understand you are able to manufacture those with the intent to sell them? Are they functional or purely for looks? I understand there were battery packs and lamps as well? Good luck with this exciting project!

I've always been a fan of vintage NV devices and I'm very interested in the ZG 1229. While I know I'll never have one of those, I do have its direct descendent, the Eltro B8-V. Even something as recent as this has very little information available:

Thank you for your messages. It will be the case that the devices will be sold when they are finished, but not many will be made. I will build my device with functions. I have an old device which was built in Germany in the fifties by a German company and it is very similar to the ZG1229. I'll add a photo of the active light the device has. The range is also 80-100 meters, which was very realistic back then.

The rail on the housing should of course not be missing. Do not worry, it is not an original, but a Dittrich replica, but it will look as real as possible, as there are many differences between Dittrich and the original

@roos1984 back then I PM'd the OP - there is someone in Germany who owns a complete and original ZG 1229 Vampir in BaWü. If you don't happen to anyway know of this I can put you in contact with him. Great thing you are doing here. I'm definitely in to buy one of your reproductions. Let me know when you are ready to sell!

Hello Absolut and thank you for your message. I've heard a lot that someone should have something here and there, but if you could send me the contact I would be very grateful, of course I'll let you know when you can buy a device ;-)

Please put me on your list too as an interested buyer. Several times I have contemplated building a working replica 1229 Vampir by deconstructing a 1950s era Infrared scope and lamp and fabricating what you have here. Yours looks great so far! Question. Does anyone know what the reticle looked like when looking through the original Vampir?

Hello, thank you for your message. I also have a very old device that was built right after the war, the range is 80-100 meters. I assume that it looks like that too. The prototype will be ready in December, then I'll upload new pictures.

I wanted to buy one of the M1 Carbine Infra red scopes to try just this, but, they have become collectors items in their own right.

Since the late magazine holders are not available for sale, I had them made in their original size, which should not be missing on an MP44/Stg44 with ZF4 /Vampir rail;-)
