Turd or extreme oddball

I don't claim to be an expert, far from it, or to have seen much at all. However, I have never seen a byf42 rifle in the i, or l block with WaA655 proofs on the stock. I was always under the impression that the WaA655 proofs went out in fall 1941. This one looks to have been put together. I may well be wrong but the keel serial numbers look to have been worked on and the wood in that area sanded and cleaned. It looks like the original letter block was either a c or an o. The front band font appears to me to be wrong. I suppose anything is possible but this one has a stink about it.

Been discussed on another forum where live auctions can be discussed. Stock is no good.

Can you guys be more specific? I'm trying to learn how to identify these things.

Agreed, I am looking to learn as well. The metal parts that are matching, are they not authentic or are you stating that the stock itself has been "foce matched" by someone trying to make a complete rifle. This being the case would it not be worth $400 either way?

earlier stock on a later rifle.. that's why its e/655 not e/135 as it should be. Re-numbered on the bottom.
The upper band is fake numbered as well.. I looked at this one quick and it fooled me as I didn't stop to really examine it. So probably a sporter rescue turned into a humped up turd to fool..

I wasn't looking to buy this one or promote it as it is clearly humped. Just bringing it to the attention of the members as has been done in the past with turd alerts.

I agree that feedback on these turd's helps everyone continue to learn. Whether live auction or post auction, between this forum and Dave's, the turd dirt gets uncovered.

With German rifles, the "turd or oddball" ends up being turd 19 times out of 20, or so it seems to me. Variations crop up, but these guys were pretty organized and consistent.

I'm brand new to all this and trying to learn...looking specifically at the number 4 in the serial number on the front band, that is the incorrect font, yes?

Yes, actually with the lighting you can see where a serial number was ground off and this number applied..

I brought a legit bolt m/m S/27 1938 Erma Spandau depot rebuild to a local show and people there looked at me as though I had 7 heads with a price of $1300. That even included an original sling, cleaning rod, and the sight hood it wore home from Europe. This clown gets $1250 for a clearly humped gun and elite collection lists a humped CE42 and people bid. I don't get it.
