Due to an increase in rifle wanking, pimping, carnival barking, and turd mongering as of late, this is the index thread for turds. Ongoing auction Turd Alerts are fine, but if you call out a turd and it isn't one, you lose your Turd Alert posting privileges and get an unflattering avatar for 30 days. This is not for auction advertising disguised as discussion and for personal vetting, but for K98k public service to protect our new guys and the hobby.

Requirements:
(Note: these are REQUIREMENTS, not suggestions.)

1) Do not post links to things we cannot control. Your link to an auction that may be gone in 30 days and clickbait pic hosting is a waste of time. Upload here please.
2) DOCUMENT IT with pictures, screenshots, serial numbers, etc. Otherwise you've wasted your time and everyone commenting is pissing up a rope.
3) Heading and body should include a description, e.g. "Humped Gew. 98 SS conv. 8311"(see below)
4) Keep it business, no personal attacks, you're responsible for your words. As patterns build people can figure it out. If they aren't smart enough to figure things out like that then they can't be helped or don't want help.
5) THIS NEEDS TO BE A GROUP EFFORT, PLEASE POST IN THE FORMAT YOU SEE AND I AND OTHER MODS WILL UPDATE THIS THREAD.

This first Turd Alert is a good example to see how it started out well-intentioned but was rendered useless with the loss of the link, but saved by the posting of screen shots and pics.

I thought this might be good for some of the newer members to run through. There's SO much wrong here you could be writing for a while. Some of the humps are a little better than the others. Some are awful.

This is just too weird. They had gone kind of cold and then went on a spending spree buying (IMHO way overpriced stuff every couple days) including 5 in a row from GunsRC. KungFlu madness?

Somebody took a DOU 44 rifle and force-matched it to Russian numbers on an early-war RC stock, did a p!ss poor terrible job on the stampings, and is attempting to sell it a gun that "appears to be matching numbers except the bbl band." Terribly obvious hump job.

I mean, seriously? If guy had simply left the rifle non-matched as is and sold it as a parts-gun, even that would be better. There are plenty of people that can't afford to pay for an all-matching vet-bringback who would be more than happy to collect a mixmaster parts gun to at least have an original German-made k98 that's a shootable representation of an otherwise historically significant rifle.

Post war czech scam rifle

What do you guys make of this?

Looks to me like someone found a post-war Czech production gun, ground off the Lion or "T" proofs, put it in a mid-war stock, removed the bayonet lug, and found some barrel bands and a stamped floor plate to complete the scam.

Maybe they also removed the "Czechoslovakia zbrojovka" or "Mod 98" engraving as well. I'm not sure if any of the post-war Czech guns had the bare left side of the receiver, like a real Kriegsmodell.

It is impossible for a German issued rifle to not have proof marks on the receiver right? I could see maybe they would recycle a good mid-war stock for a Kreigsmodell maybe, but remove the bayonet lug? Use screws? Me thinks not.

Buy it now for $2k...Kreigsmodell should go for 2.5-3k right?

Looks like a post war refurb. I don't think he is attempting to pass it on as an original matching rifle.

Proof mark on the barrel was as far as I needed to look. VERY BAD.

I agree with all your points, and to make it worse the stock looks sanded based on the bolt cut-out area. The barrel stamp looks laughingly faked.

I've only ever handled one post war gun, and that's my own DOT 1945 ethiopian contract. It has "Mod. 98" engraved on the side and czech circle T stamps on the receiver and barrel, but also has Eagle/63 on the underside of the barrel. The tricky thing about post-war guns is that they use both post-war production and war-time parts and so some of them have German proofs on them. Haven't seen a single post-war K98 that was bare on the side like a Kriegsmodell online. Therefore, I think you're right and you sniffed out a fake.

Some poor b*st*rd is going to pay enough to get two or three un-messed-with Ethiopians from RTI. I have a couple Ethiopians myself, so I knew there would be a "T" or a Czech lion proof on the base of the bolt handled. Messaged the seller to disassemble and show this proof, which would be a German mark on a real Kriegsmodell. He never responded. Gun Broker should really add a comments section to try to let people get the word out on stuff like this.
 
"Made in the Germany"... Apparently that's all the information you need right there. And all this for the low, low starting price of $2853!! :facepalm:
