Hello Sauer,
It's the markings for Krakau ("Kru") Depot for rework / major repair. The "6" may simply be from the original dot stock manufacture inspect. Look forward to more pics to see the extent of the repairs.
Cheers,
HB

Well, it's been restocked, as we see from the external number. That may be a replacement or cannibalized stock if it has an internal number.

Hello
and thanks for the info
what I would like to know is this letter J alphabetic code of stock replacement ?

Whoa!! Looking in Heidler’s code book, “gbd” decodes as: Hugo Bauer, Federn- u. Kettenfabrik/ MG-Gurkästen, Solingen-Wald, Georgestr. (Spring and chain factory, MG belt boxes.) Though I’ve never seen a sight hood marked before, this would make complete sense as the type of steel used would seem to go right along with “spring steel” and sheet steel MG ammo boxes.

Perhaps. It looks like it is directly below the "6" which looks to be an inspection of the stock manufacture itself. Does the stock have an internal number different from the rifle and external number? If so, it came from another rifle, a cannibalized stock. If not, then it is a dot manufactured replacement stock and the "6" and "J" may be stock inspection for a process in the making of a replacement stock not fitted to a rifle. Fitted to a rifle it would have it's own inspection. Made for spare / armorer / replacement that inspection process would be different I would imagine.

That has to the most deeply impressed and perfect Krakau marking I've seen. All the ones I've seen are slightly off-set.

They are fairly rare. Here's a conversation from 2015 and Pisgah links to another from 2013 with more photos including gbd marked ones with the same milling marks.

Good stuff on this rifle so far. Can't wait to see more of it.

I do not remember the markings inscribed inside the stock
I will check and put pictures

Regarding the 'J' stamp in the stock, I don't think it has anything to do with dot. I have a Krakau depot marked Mosin Nagant 91/30 that also has the same style 'J,' and in the same location. I can post a pic later if anyone is interested.

yes Pat
please the picture
thanks

Sauer,
I hope this helps. This is from the wrist of a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 stock, and the rest of the rifle shows the other, typical indications of German rework. There are actually two Kru 1 stamps on it, the other is below the one in the photo. Since they were stamped in a high contact area, they are faint.
Best,
Pat

EDIT: I don't know why my photos are showing up sideways, sorry. They are aligned properly on the screen and when viewing them on my laptop.
