I hope this helps. This is from the wrist of a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 stock, and the rest of the rifle shows the other, typical indications of German rework. There are actually two Kru 1 stamps on it, the other is below the one in the photo. Since they were stamped in a high contact area, they are faint.

Thanks Pat. It must be something specific to a time or section or Kru inspector as none of my Kru rifles have the "J" mark that I can recall.
 
Hi Ham,
Those all sound like good possibilities. I have a Lebel R35 that is Kru 1 marked that doesn't have anything like that, either. It's just my 91/30 that has the 'J' stamp.
