Hello everyone, i was at an acquaintances yard sale, looking for model trains for my wife. Ive known these folks for a long time, as the grandfather(since passed) was a ww2 aircraft mechanic. He and often his son would stop by the airport where i worked just to talk airplanes. Anyways after purchasing a few trains i asked them if they had any military items. They said the grandson had a rifle that has been in the family for a while, but none of them were gun people and they knew nothing about it, and really had no interest in it. I asked them to send me a picture or 2 and went about my day. I was amazed when the pix showed up, a LSR with no scope. I went to the grandsons house and disassembled / looked over the rifle, and sent some pix to a couple of guys who post here regularly who i have had some communications with. Got the green light and brought her home yesterday. handguard mismatch, missing rod, nice bore. Bands were backwards and driven on too far damaging the stock a bit. anyways, pix are below. any thoughts appreciated

thx!

WOW beautiful, and Jealous lol, a very nice LSR Sauer assembled BCD4 used receiver!! Now you just need a Scope lol!

Some people have all the luck! Great find sir! Not just great, as has been stated, a very jealousy creating post haha!

I got a cool antique cookie jar at a yard sale once...

Nice find! Don't ruin your luck streak, if you didn't just spend it all.

Congratulations on your find and purchase . Looks like a nice example . With a little bit of light rust cleaning it will improve the overall all look as well . But only light cleaning . I would not clean take down disc just some oil .
I see nothing concerning about the Base Cut Out . Looks fine IMO , maybe a bit tight on back end under side but other than I see nothing concerning . Best Regards

Yeah the cutouts on these were a bit crude sometimes compared to the inletting on say a zf41

thanks everyone for the kind words and information. i ammased a bit of a ww1 & 2 collection, but this one sits at the top right along side my 1941 johnson, which i also stumbled on. For the first time ever im having trouble even opening my kroil can. i dont overclean my collectibles, but this ones got me almost tempted to do nothing. I wont be touching the stock at all, even with 50+ years of light closet scrapes. The metal active rust i do need to address. The firing pin, spring, sleev and cocking piece are crusty and rusted together, soaking in. kroil now. ill start with the bolt, which needs the most attention, and go from there

thx again

Gene

Congrats on the great find! Nice to find these out of the woodwork! Haha! Might wanna check back in and make double sure that the scope and mount aren't anywhere to be found!

Still looks good Gene. Always happy to help a fellow collector. Give it some time and we'll find a good scope for it.

killer rifle and the old adage it never hurts to ask ! Near un-issued JPS LSR ... wow. bolt is amazing

I am a little concerned about the cut out for the mount base. I am curious about other's opinion.

From looking at the rust on the rifle, it probably got wet at some point. Perhaps the wood swelled causing the contact with the base. Most likely it wasn’t touching when it was made.

Great story bro! One collectors dream of.

I thought it looked funky too but nothing else threw any red flags.

To the OP, great find! The color on the bolt collar is ridiculous. I also liked the 'we're not gun people' bit.
