S/42G at Legacy - 5600b

Guys if any of you bought that rifle, the gun is not original bolt matching.
Its a really nice DRP divert but when I originally purchased it at my local shop, the bolt was not matched.
I sold it some years ago at SOS and now it magically appears with a matching bolt.

Just a heads up here!

Christ almighty. How would you go about identifying this as a forgery if you it wasn’t a previously observed example?
 
It's not too hard to spot most fakes. This one is not great, but not the worst.

The font and letter block is usually what gives them away. Bolt doesn't use the right font and the letter appears to be somewhat crudely formed. The bolt has also been ground down, which is maybe harder to recognize, but when they are renumbered, they usually don't have the right "look". Its hard to explain, but if you put this bolt next to a factory Mauser bolt, the differences would become apparent.

Of course there are very good fakes out there, but even those can be spotted if you look close enough.

The lines on the 'b' stood out to me. I would guess that without the white crap in them it would be even more obvious.

I guess the question I have though is if it's obvious for seasoned collectors here to be able to tell that this is a fake, why couldn't legacy? On the heels of the Luger fiasco I wouldn't trust these people with anything.
 
Well PB, there are a few.
The font seems off as well as the overall look.
Another error is the 4-digit SN on the bolt shroud. A gun this early should only have the last 2-digits of
the serial number applied to this part, along with an inspection stamp up top.

Well you can compare to known good examples. Although unless you are very tuned in it would be hard to do in situ.

They are simply ignorant. And they probably don't care if they sell fake stuff.

This isn't some indictment of Legacy in particular, all dealers are that way. Its a business, and they don't know everything or care to. Tom is probably a perfectly nice guy, but he isn't an expert and never will be.

Its your responsibility to know what you are buying.

I bought a refinished luger from legacy advertised as “all matching” but discovered it to be crudely renumbered when in hand. Just an anecdote, but they managed to appease me with $200z

Bruce, what suffix would the 4 digit show on the shroud?
