Questionable Camos

http://www.germanhelmetsinc.com/gallery.htm

This one has a look that I really dig. The wire attachment method is quite simple but must have taken some talent to achieve.

Essentially no combat wear on this piece that I can see, although the rim has heavy wear (disparity).
The camo colors/shades do not fit a WWII German military theme. Also too bright/new looking.
The wire clearly took some time to install. Does not appear old and does not appear to have been attached to this helmet for a long time.
While no doubt authentic camo paint + wire examples exist, many of the postwar repaints + wire are simply overdone. A trooper took time to produce this exotic camo, then he took time to put an elaborate wire basket on it covering the camo once foliage is installed ? He seems to be working against himself.

This is an EF64 which was covered over in a coat of light colored tan paint mixed with sand. You can see on the inside where the paint has run through the split-pin holes and dripped down.

No combat wear, fresh rust, decal deliberately left exposed (why would a trooper do that?). Another nice touch that I like to see; the 'camo' dripping down the inside of the shell.

Nice German WWII helmet. Great camo colors. I found this at a flea market two weeks ago.

The helmet itself is original. It was made by ET. Lot number is 4173. It has The last name Schwenk painted underneath the back.

I'm pretty sure that the camo paint is not original to the helmet. It looks too nice to be 70 years old. Helmet liner and chinstrap look very old. Not sure if they are original to the helmet or not.

I've included lots of pictures. Email if you've any questions. No returns.

I'm pretty sure the camo is not original to this helmet as well; bright colors, pristine condition of the woodchips in the detail photos. The same type of wear all over this helmet; no scratches scrapes or rub marks. Originals typically have a variety of wear marks, not just one type. Lots of 'popped-off' paint with hard breaks, not worn off due to field use. Whomever it is cooking up these things, they are getting better at it.

The 'red-brown' RAL color is off. It should be a darker red.

-Hey guys. What do you think of this helmet? Any chance it's good? Looks too good to be true. You know what they say when it looks too good to be true!

-I like it !

-so do I

-I like it too

-Someone got an utterly amazing deal on it.

-I am not strong on camo's but i am assuming by the pictures it was painted while the liner was out correct ???....

Good point! The paint is underneath the rivets. A very nice, neat job, not something that would be seen in the field associated with front line action.

A Excellent WWII German Multicolor woodchip Camouflaged M40 Helmet. This is the best multicolor sawdust or wood chip Camo M40 helmets I have ever seen. It is an army helmet as the interior is green. There is a name on the liner and a name on the rear apron of the shell. The helmet also has it original chin strap. I am sure this helmet will be in a book some day. This M40 camo helmet was part of a large quality grouping I just bought out of the east coast. The vet was in the 3rd Infantry Division and was the winner of the bronze star. After the war he had quite a distinguished legal career. I will provide the name of the vet who brought this helmet home to the buyer. This is the best unquestionable German camo helmet on the market today! Click on the picture below to see more images. $5200 SOLD!

Ww2 m35 ef66 luftwaffe normandy camo german helmet

WW2 M35 EF66 LUFTWAFFE NORMANDY CAMO GERMAN HELMET - SOLD AS POSTWAR REPAINT

EBAY ITEM# 301674624430

You are bidding on a large sized all original WW2 M35 EF66 helmet rear lot marked 20402. This is a Luftwaffe helmet as seen from the blue gray smooth finish on the inside with three of the basic Normandy colors of red ochre, dark green over a dark yellow tan base coat. I've noticed that Luftwaffe camouflaged helmets tend to be a little more vivid and less drab/muted than regular Heer army camouflaged paint schemes. This is perhaps the greatest post war painted helmet I've ever laid eyes on as I thought of myself as somewhat of a seasoned collector until I had to take a step back on this one. Everything about it screams originality and natural aging both inside and out however it is being sold as a post war paint job on an original shell and original liner system so please bid accordingly.

The liner system is 100% original and is the early war aluminum square bale model and since it's re-enforced would be dated from 1938-40. The leather is strong and playable with no damage to any of the fingers and has aged beautifully over time showing definite use during WW2. The chinstrap is your typical cadaver cut whereby you find a straight cut through edge meaning that the Allied solider would have used a sharp knife to cut the chinstrap just below the fallen soldier's chin in order to remove the helmet as a personal war trophy. The split pins I don't believe to be original but rather post war matched as they lack sufficient iron content as tested with a magnet.

Without highly sophisticated tools I doubt that most collectors could tell this was in fact a high level fake. Dust between outer band and helmet as well as inside the split pins and all around the internal liner springs. The wear pattern is completely random just like one would find with an original and the colors are muted and oxidized with a wonderful patina which would normally be impossible to duplicate.

A fantastic find and starting at only $1 good luck bidding!!!

I guess that's one way to turn a ruined chinstrap into a selling point.

Medic wire

MEDIC - WIRE

M35 WEHRMACHT MEDIC'S HELMET
Very rare M35 German army medic's helmet retaining about 80% of its age darkened, sand/white over-paint with hand painted red crosses to the front and rear. The helmet has also been fitted with heavy-gauge steel wiring for camouflage purposes. All three of the liners retaining rivets are intact, and the interior of the helmet has an aged M31 leather liner, size 59, with all of the original eight fingers and drawstring still intact. . Interior and exterior bear some pitting in places, and it has much paint chipping and scratches consistent with use and age. The blackened leather chinstrap with steel adjustment buckle appears to have been never removed. Possibly used in North Africa, this example shows a great deal of honest age with heavy use and much accumulated dust beneath the camo wiring.

M40 SD Camouflage Ex wire Helmet HC-256

http://rivervalleymilitaria.com/?2020021981218

M40 SD Camouflage Ex wire Helmet HC-256

NS 62 #1564 This single decal Heer helmet was given a classic 3 color spray camouflage that has a tan base with the other colors added
for contrast. There was a small wire tied around the circumference and over the top for adding foliage. The wire was held in place by the rivet
heads and hooked over the flange for added anchoring. The leather is a bit stiff and looks to have a blood spot on a small area creating a black
area that is hard and stiff. I can’t make out the liner band date, and the chin strap has a nice painted buckle. SOLD

I see a disparity of wear on the second detail photo; the red-brown splotch has essentially no wear, while to its 10 o-clock I see heavy wear down to bare metal.
