Portuguese K98 new imports

Hello Everyone,

I have been thinking about buying a Portuguese contract Mauser. I’m sure everyone knows about them being sold. I just wanted to hear some opinions on buying one. If it’s worth it at all if so should I get the matching bayonet rifle even though the pickings are pretty slim. Or just buy one without a bayonet and buy one unmatched. The difference is about 500 dollars.

If you’re planning to buy from centerfire the rifles look nice but be careful as I suspect at least a couple I’ve seen to have corrosion under the wood line. Thankfully centerfire has pictured each rifle individually if I’m not mistaken so that is a plus.

Thanks for the feedback I picked out the two best from the pictures but they are both PB marked. I don’t know if that hurts the value much on an 1700 rifle. Ordering one with no bayonet no pictures matching numbers is over a 1000. But then it’s a 1000 dollar gamble I’m starting to think i should pass on these ones. It’s a lot of cash to spend on a hope or bad pictures and no bore condition. I missed on Mosin Crate it looks like he got the best of the lot somehow.

The PB are an eye sore, right next to the serial.

I keep looking at them and can’t say I disagree on that. I think i might sit this one out. I might regret it later but I have a lot right now. I just keep piling it on though and don’t like missing a deal. I was thinking of getting a matching number and just buying a bayonet but I’d want it to not be PB stamped and that would just be a request in the notes no Guarantee.

Type in K-98 in the search bar they don’t have a picture but it will come up with bayonets and cleaning kits separate.

I figured I'd take a chance, I ordered one. They just called me back after the order already went through and said that they aren't for sale yet. Centerfire definitely has a pretty poor operation going on. I've had problems with there website for years now.

That’s funny you say that i just tried to find them they took off the site. I called was told they are still for sale on website which they are not. He said call back if I can’t find but i can’t buy until tomorrow anyway i don’t use credit for my toys. Hopefully you are right I’m going to get a number match and just get the bayonet and kit non matching good enough for me. Good luck I’ll post if they come back online

I think I’m in the wrong place to be talked out of a buy lol. My kind of place haha. I was just laughing at my own mental gymnastics on this thread and i still don’t have one ordered lol.
This isn't a new topic. I remember when Sweaty Ben would serve up a fresh batch of them Notzi rifles on video. And he's not the only one who hyped up 'questionable' rifles on video.

For your amusement. https://www.k98kforum.com/search/396479/?q=Sweaty+Ben&o=date

I didn’t realize they are guilty of fake matching K-98s also. Now I see the RT ones for sale refurbished new barrels all matched parts by them. Crazy prices why do they have to try to make them match? If people are buying a refurbished rebarreled K-98 for that price does faking a matching numbers gun really seal the deal?

Wow those centerfire guns are awe full I wouldn’t touch for half the money. You’d never get it back. Between the new condition early imports and later Hansen guns in VG+ there are plenty in collectible condition floating around if U want one of these. Extra mark next to the serial? Non matching stock? I bet one wouldn’t break $1k on GB on its own. What kind of import marks do the have?

I don't think the big retailers fake the markings. Maybe they 'have a guy'... maybe they acquire someones 'collection' full of guns with issues. They're careful with their language much like Mitchell's print ads.

It's a cai stamp between the cleaning rod and bottom of barrel, very discreet.

I appreciate what you're saying about the non matching, but disagree on your assessment of current price and value. Aldens batch sold out quickly at 1400-1600, with plenty more interest. The versions you're talking about seem to fetch 2k plus, and will only get more expensive with the recent non-perfect imports.

I’ve gotten the Emails about the refurbished and numbered matching brand new barrel. Then they stamped the rest of the parts to make it a matching rifle all around. Very nice of them to force match and calling it something completely different. You can also get a Certificate now for only 25 bucks guaranteed to be from a Goat barn.

Anyways I’ve been waiting for the Portuguese K-98s with no bayonets to hit the site again. They were there until you tried to buy one so I hope they actually have just numbers matched rifles. If anyone knows what’s happening with that and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
