My svwMB

I have looked at the timeline - there’s some confusion in gman’s timeline.

Ceaser bought the rifle sporterized and repaired the original stock.

At some point, he put a nicer stock in the rifle.

Then, it appears he put the original stock back on the rifle and sold it to someone basically as he bought it.

You bought the rifle from a dealer, from which it came from an estate. Your assumption is he took a nice stocked rifle and put the cut/repaired stock - that in fact did not happen.

The rifle you own is nearly the same as when Ceaser bought it originally, albeit repaired. So technically it’s original as it can be. No telling when the floorplate disappeared and honestly makes no difference to value.

It’s a rare gun - a phosphate matching bolt C suffix German production svwMB is a hard gun to find. You should spend some time finding a correct unaltered stock to make it nicer, and keep the original as Caesar did so when you sell it they can remain together.

Gman

Not for nothing but unless you bought the rifle from Cesar… you have ZERO reason to comment on stuff he did or didn’t do…

You bought the rifle from someone and like anyone else.. YOU were free to research your potential purchase.. prior to purchasing.. yet you apparently didn’t.. Simply coming here first and doing your due diligence… prior to buying.. would have gave you cause for pause..

Is it unfortunate you bought something which wasn’t what you expected… sure.. but to now make some of the comments you have candidly is really childish… take ownership of your actions.. learn from them and move on.. unless you have direct proof of who did what.. and even then..we are all responsible for our actions and purchases…

At this point it is unfortunate but throwing shade on a forum when the shade should stay in your yard doesn’t sit well

It is a cool rifle regardless and if you aren’t happy move on from it..

Finding a paper trail of the same rifle in a lesser configuration than it was initially posted would have me pretty upset too so while this applies in the hobby in general, we go out of our way on the forum here to root out fraud. The timeline here is confused because the rifle was supposedly posted in its "improved" configuration with no mention of the work having been done, then several months later being posted in "worse" configuration as if it were parted out. Parted out or restored it still raised eyebrows at the time among many members and admins for very good reason.

Thank you

Agree. I was one of the harsh critics, not of Caesar (whom I don't know) but rather that practice I decried. And for good reason I feel. Multiple times, including some sellers who are multi time offenders buy, alter and then fraudulently misrepresent said item when reselling. A fairly recent one involved a member who sold a barreled action on GB I believe and then shortly it miraculously showed back up for sale as 'Original' and 'ALL MATCHING'. That seller has been pulling those same shenanigans for more than a decade.

I also agree with Mike that the timeline of the posts by Caesar led to some confusion and suspicion.

I’m not a dealer I’m a casual collector and have no reason to attempt to fool anyone. I actually just sold a nice byf45 with an internal repair here on the forum that if I didn’t disclose it you wouldn’t see. Over the years I have had the good fortune of finding some nice hard to find parts and a few original hard to find stocks. If this rifle came to me pitted and cut and I put one of my better stocks with bands and floor plate on it and took a picture, it was because I was going to keep it in my collection. If I then found another matched SVWMb action with no pitting and put the action in that stock with floor plate and bands and sold the other I would not have tried to pass it off as my grandfathers vet return. I have a few more stocks that I am waiting for sportered rifles to appear. I really don’t see the problem with switching stocks on rifles that aren’t original. I won’t be posting on this again. I’ve been considering selling a large part of my collection and this probably gives me the nudge I needed. I have traded and sold a lot of rifles over the years, never humping or fooling anyone. This guy seems pissed that he bought a story…,not my story or my rifle.

Caesar1, thanks for finally explaining what happened with the rifle OP now possesses. An earlier explanation from you likely would have eliminated much of the mystery, suspicion, whatever, about this rifle, however that’s just my thought on the matter.
