Hello everyone, I created an intro post earlier today in anticipation of bringing home my first Mauser. I have been collecting C&R for a little over a year now and have a few varieties but I have been wanting a K98. I have been lurking on this forum all week and have learned a lot but took a chance on two Mausers today from a guy locally.
The first one is a CE 44 (J.P. Sauer & Sohn) and the second was a Turkish Mauser from 1941. The guy still has a Portuguese and a Swedish that I may look at as well.
The CE 44 is not all matching and I knew this going in so I am still looking at identifying all of the parts. It has the waffenamts on most of the parts as far as I can tell although they look smaller than some pictured here. The bold matches itself and I have not removed it yet for further identification. The stock does not appear to have any markings that I can tell and is likely not original to the rifle. The receiver looks like it has a notch taken out of it but I don't know what that could have been from and I am not sure about the additional markings it has.
Any information you guys can provide would be great and I look forward to learning from you.
Receiver =Left Side- 8174 (Gouge or notch) then vertical it looks like CK, Would this represent Metallwerk Neumeyer, Munich? Right side has really small 280??
Front Sight Base = 8174
Front Sight = 8174
Floorplate = 7931
Front Barrell Band - 4285 (different color)
Bolt, Safety, Hood? - 7414
There is no cleaning rod, no sling, no sight hood, and the stock does not have any external markings. The bore does not look so good but I am hoping it cleans up well. Hopefully I did alright with the price.
Pics to follow, after all of this they were too large.....sorry newbie issues here
