Ryan, thanks! Thats the photo I was thinking about, with Bundesarchiv number and I believe a March 1945 date, it is worn by a Hitler Youth member during training by regular army.
basile, nice find! It looks like an ET/CKL helmet. Do you know the lot number?
In any event, you've sold me on the color of the helmet. However, it looks to me like an overpaint. Was it a feldgrau overpainted in this brown? But if so, how would it get the oval ink stamp? I own a camo overpaint in a similar mustard brown color, original vet bringback helmet, but it's an overpainted M.40. Very unusual helmet. What's the back story? Additional pics?
HB, it looks like a factory finish with the underside being painted first (I'm thinking this is the way most factory helmets were painted), then the exterior was painted, with a bit of paint buildup on the underside rim (last photo). The exterior may have been a slightly different shade as well. This helmet came from Collector to Collector Militaria, Bob Iqbal-great guy. One of his associates had been after this vet-owned helmet for years and finally got it. It was posted for sale on Bob's website about 2 years ago I believe.
I have found that online collector's forums (owners/mods) are basically one of two types:
--those who place the hobby above themselves, and those who place themselves above the hobby.
