I merged all the threads on the topic of reproductions. Post all you want in this thread about clones or reproduction snipers.

I don't want to discourage people from talking about it but I do want to see this sub forum stay focused on real items. We don't want this turning into FB or gunboards. I'll merge any new threads posted on the same topic into this one.

Hey all,

Brand new to this forum. I have a few questions if some of you would be so kind to help a fella out.

So I'm acquiring what I believe is a yugo capture k98. Slightly bubba'd from the previous owner with a drill hole in the receiver. Which leads to my question...I'm looking to make it a sniper clone with all period correct stuff. I did some basic research and it looks like something out of my skill level to complete. Regardless of that, what scope and mounts would you recommend? I've seen the turret, short side, and long side mounts. Not sure which I should go with, what's the better option, etc. Scope wise I came across a website called texasprecisionoptics. They make a k98 repro scope I was thinking about picking up but I would like some advice first.

Thank you for any response, I work weird hours so I may not respond in a timely manner.

Hold out and find a better optic on ebay. You can find a post war scope way better than that Chinese garbage

If the drill hole is on the top of the receiver, using a Low or high turret mount can cover it up.
You'll find Dialytan" and "Zielvier" 4x scopes are easy to find and relatively inexpensive 3-400 USD.

Avoid anything with windage knob or a dovetail rail along the bottom of the scope, these are incorrect.

Make sure your rifle shoots well, no point in putting the effort in to put it on a turd.

Thanks, and yeah I'm just having a hard time finding any 4x scopes that can go on a low or high turret(probably me being stupid not searching the right thing lol). But yeah I hear ya... it's a very oddly accurate rifle that's why I have the plans to scope it up.

Hey yall

Does anyone make 27mm scope rings for a high turret? Prefer split rings. I have an AJACK scope I want to use for my shooter scope to not destroy the cad scope that matches to the rifle. I believe Speilauer used to but does anyone else. Thanks!

Scott

Redfield used to make a T-27 (27mm) Scope/Rings set but I doubt they are still available. You might try one of the "vintage scope" collectors
Not sure but another option would be to see if there is enough material in a 25mm ring to have it reamed out to 27.

I seem to remember a set of mounts and rings at 26mm, but they came with 1mm spacers. I will search "the box" for them...

Robert HT and LT Rings were 26.5mm . Just so I understand what Your saying , is that the Ajack Tube is bigger than inner dia. than your Turret Rings ?? If so You can open up the Rings to fit the Ajack .

Dave,

Correct. I have an interesting AJACK believed to be part of the Finnish Order. It has a V suffix and Ajack is spelt like that vice AJACK. The tube diameter does appear to be 27mm as it does not fit in the Sarco Rings as others do like a Zielvier.

Repro currently are the 26.5mm usually. Reaming it out another .5mm shouldn't cause any integrity loss.

Fly cut them on a milling machine. I'd get a micrometer to measure the scope tube first. Measure it at several points, especially the anticipated points where the scope rings will fit onto. Then fly cut the scope rings (clamped together first) to fit. You may want to add a .010" so it's slightly larger. Flycutting is smoother than reaming.

Hey!

Could you guys please help me tell if this gun is german made or not? And maybe What year?
Thank you!

It is a German wartime made rifle composed of mixed parts from various makers. It is not a period made sniper rifle (post war). Bases for scope are off a hunting rifle. Scope is post war. Looks like receiver maker is JP Sauer. Bolt is a Russian capture ( electro pencil number). Is there a series of numbers around the barrel close to the receiver? Might help get a ballpark year of manufacture. Magazine floor plate Eagle/6 came from a Weimar Era rifle.

Depends on what you mean by 'real'. The rifle's components are German yes, but it appears to be a Russian Capture/rework to my eye. No comment on the scope and mounts, but I can almost assure you they are not original to the rifle.

Thank you so much for your fast answer! Unfortunately there are no more pics. Can you please help me with this one too? Its modified into an “alarm gun” (dont ask me why)

Thank you for your answer! Yes I think you are right. Could you please give me your opinion about this one too? Its modified into an “alarm gun” (unfortunately)
