K98 Sniper Clone Thread- All things repro sniper

The rail on this rifle is a reproduction. You have no guarantee that an original top mount would work with the reproduction base. And even if you find an original mount, you are looking at minimum $ 1000 for the mount only. Additionally I don't see any reason as to why replace the mount only for an original one on a rifle which might not be an original LSR sniper, use a reproduction base and a reproduction mount.
You wouldn't go through the hassle and find an original Shelby Cobra Engine and pay a crazy price for this, only to then use it in a reproduction Shelby Cobra, would you? Same here.
I understand your reasoning but I intend to shoot this rifle. From what everyone here has said, the repro scopes don't hold zero. That's the only reason I would want to get a higher quality scope, that actually looks like it belongs on it.

Hopefully someone who has put a real scope on a repro mount can chime in.

If this is to be a shooter, go ahead as equipped & shoot it til there’s a problem. An authentic/‘correct’ scope or mount will not necessarily be sturdier, (they did fail in wartime service) but they will be MUCH more expensive. If a repro scope fails, sucks but no big $$$$ hit to your wallet. If you find a correct vintage scope & a reticle breaks or elevation turret strips out, you may be out the price you paid for the whole rifle in buying a replacement. Some authentic vintage scopes are quite fragile, why serious collectors of authentic snipers mostly don’t shoot them, the risk/benefit equation is not favorable. Finding a modern scope that looks correct is difficult, main tube sizes varied, & today’s tactical styles just don’t look right. I found a postwar German sporting scope for my turret clone here on our Trader, some guys use Weaver K4s, & keep looking for something better. There are a lot of nuances involved, I feel you are being offered sound advice, think before you leap!

I can only concur with @Muncher 1953 - why buy a shooter and then already try to get ahold of an original mount at huge expenses (to then possibly find out the original mount not working with the reproduction rail, to then make the reproduction rail working with the original mount to then find out the reproduction rail is the one that makes problems so that you'd also have to replace the rail later ....)? You could only get yourself into trouble by doing this from the beginning. Shoot it until it makes a problem, if it does, then decide what to do next.
The same applies to the scope. If it makes problems, you can then replace it. But don't replace it for no reason. Measure the inside diameter of the scope rings once you have received it, then you can keep your eyes open and see if one day a correct scope would turn up. LSR scopes often turn up in mint condition, because they saw less usage for being late productions. This way you have enough time to possibly luck into one, and then you still can replace it.

In case you're still aboard, just see what got listed on the local trader: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/f...ube-bek-with-sunshade-for-gustloff-lsr.52554/

Not a sniper guy nor a shill for the company but as an FYI, I got an email from Numrich about some sale on ZF-4 scopes. They're Meopta post war repos from Czech Republic. They're 25% off with coupon code. No skin in the game but thought I'd add this in case anyone was looking or if this is a good deal.

What is the coupon code?

I have been searching for a rifle as a base to do a sniper conversion and I came across this already converted rifle(I'm assuming it's not a real sniper).

Can someone with some serious knowledge on these take a look and give your opinion. I have compared it side by side to a real one that's posted here and the mount appears ever so slightly different than a 'real' one. The scope also looks too clean and new to be an original, it is also missing the 'carl zeiss' on the top of the scope.

It looks to have been done correctly but again I'm not an expert.

Thanks in advance for any info
I almost bid on that. If you're the one who won, that's a good deal. You couldn't even build a clone on a shitty RC for that cheap.
