Help: 1939 Factory 660 G33/40

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum. Mainly been lurking here and there. I came across a cool Mauser and I wanted to see what the experts of the k98k forum would think.

I was not able to get any more photos, but I will say the Mauser is in very good condition. What threw me off is it's a 1939 Fac. 660(Steyr?) code, but g33/40. Was not certain of value or rarity. I'm primarily asking if I should grab it or not. I have other firearms I am waiting to purchase currently... but this caught my eye. It was not refinished, nor is it import marked. It seems to be a bring back, less without papers. The asking value is $2500.

Please educate me, and I apologize for not being an expert. I'd appreciate any help :)

Many things to consider, but first, are the numbers matching? Really cannot assist without more detailed photographs.
 
based off the 1 photo its a g29o These are fairly scarce and sought after. Steyr produced variant only. Search G29o and you will have better luck seeing examples posted ..
2500 isnt bad as all matching high condition examples bring 4k. The bolt is specific but a k98k bolt will interchange.
A g29/40 is another steyr variant but is basically the same as a k98k .

If I get a chance, I'll try and go back down today to get more photos. It is matching numbers though. It's coming out of a big estate collection. Guy was a collector since the 1970/1980s. They showed me his matching G43/K43 sniper. Including original scope. I have like one photo from it on the wall.

This is what I initially thought, but the receiver says G33/40. Which is why I'm coming here to get opinions on it. I appreciate the insight though. Just... how can it be a G29 if it's marked a G33/40? Unless this is some one-off?


Here is the other photo I have on hand. Hopefully it helps. The factory cutaway also comes from the same collection at $2000 and was considering it as well.

looks promising.. so bottom from top.. g29o ,g24t k98k cut away. k98k semi kreigs. maybe a bcd4 or 45 .. well worth looking at again.. the g/k43 sniper rig if correct would bring over 10k
 
M99’s info is good.

Weren’t factory cut away’s early ERMA marked in walnut? Doesn’t seem right in laminate. Semi-kriegs could also be late byf with a *c marking in the stock’s keel (I’d consider this one first).

not saying its a period cut away just a cut away.. Yes Erma did make the orig. factory cut aways that Ive seen.

I looked, at some good ones in good condition, but incredibly high pricing. All of it is being priced at the Insurance pricing.

Also, have cool Tokarevs. M20 marked Chinese, to CCCP gripped Russians. 1917 Suhl Lugers to S/42s and more. And like 40 P38s.

The G43/K43 I was would be sold for 5-6k, I was going to grab it if I couldn't get their SVD. But they decided to take the rest of the collection to auction.

The K98K cutaway has no marks at all. But, it is a pristine and very cool cutaway. I messed with it and it's made me appreciate cutaway guns more.

The other K98 was non-matching. They are priced at the price of a matching one, but I can give them a call to get the information on them if need be.

To address Peter: Yes, that's the G33/40 I have pictured.

Honestly, I would love a good view on pricing so I know I'm not paying too high of a pony for these things if I go for one. Strongly considering any of the users except the Spanish one on top.
 
Sorry for the double reply, but here are some of the pistols. 1917 Suhl is on the left that I was eyeing, but it's not matching. Not in the photo sadly. Theres a whole second case full of other communist blocs and other guns.
 
As with anything like this you must go over everything with a fine tooth comb.. Lots of older collections are riddled with humped up and bad items mixed in with the good.. Ask questions and take pics . A g29o all matching and in good shape is a deal @ 2500 but mismatched or renumbered anything is a deal breaker

I'll head back in a bit to take more photos. I'll look at the other users there as well. Is there any value to the cut away?

Thats why I am here. It's thrown me off, and I'm not a Mauser expert. So I appreciate any of the help I'd get. Expect more photos soon.
 
Stores with this many collectible guns exist for a pair of reasons:

1- the stuff is all humped

And/or

2- the stuff is all overpriced.

I wonder which of these it is.

He did say it was all from a single estate collection, in fact some of the best pieces were going straight to auction...
