Help: 1939 Factory 660 G33/40

He did say it was all from a single estate collection, in fact some of the best pieces were going straight to auction...
The collection was approximately worth $5 million USD. The family is keeping all of the bring-back NFA items and more, I was told several StG44s and other variations and so on were included. What is in the store on display currently is the start of the last 5% as I am told. There might be more in the next few months.

All of their pricing is not theirs either. The family is going off of insurance values for the firearms.

Insurance values are always very high...the family is crazy going off of them to set retail. Greedy...They want to maximize profits, put it all in a big Rock Island auction or similar...

And just because its a large and extensive collection, doesn't mean it can't have a fair amount of fakes/humped rifles. Backbone was largely based on one collectors large 98k collection, and there were a lot of fakes/humped guns in there...there is a gun used in there, where if you look carefully you can see the ghost where the 7.62 stamp done by the Israeli's after conversion was welded in and polished off...Thats why Backbone, while the seminal work when it came out is considered outdated and bad to base conclusions as to what's actually good and what's not. Still a very valuable book for many reasons, but don't base assumptions as to correctness on it.

That would fall under “it’s overpriced,” option 2.

Not wrong either, but, from what I've seen so far all of it has been original or near original guns. Even the store told me they had no signs of "fakes," unless they were VERY well done.

Well, I did write that before you posted the update on the "33/40", since Steyr never made 33/40's that didn't pass the smell test, but since it wasn't a 33/40, that answers that...I'd be after that 29(O) then!

So you’re telling me to get it? Only issue is the stock is a depot rework and a S/42 gas shield.

Also, they do have a G33/40 there. Lol. I just got them mixed up.😅

not saying its a period cut away just a cut away.. Yes Erma did make the orig. factory cut aways that Ive seen.

Regards to the cutaway:

There were no receiver marks or anything on it. It was marked Mod .98 if I recall, but that was it. Looked absolutely pristine though.

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum. Mainly been lurking here and there. I came across a cool Mauser and I wanted to see what the experts of the k98k forum would think.

I was not able to get any more photos, but I will say the Mauser is in very good condition. What threw me off is it's a 1939 Fac. 660(Steyr?) code, but g33/40. Was not certain of value or rarity. I'm primarily asking if I should grab it or not. I have other firearms I am waiting to purchase currently... but this caught my eye. It was not refinished, nor is it import marked. It seems to be a bring back, less without papers. The asking value is $2500.

Please educate me, and I apologize for not being an expert. I'd appreciate any help :)

Thanks!
Justinian

Are you part of the family selling the collection or a just a buyer?
Nice collection there!
They should post some of the items on the Trader Forum.
