Gunboreds K98k dou. 42

The fact that a mod pulled the plug on it to begin with is bad form but sadly not unexpected as the posts here accurately predicted. When your forum knowledge base not only fails to identify and call out an obvious fake, but then promotes it in over 20 posts, that’s a problem. Then this forum needs to point out and correct the gross misinformation, which causes them to censor and delete the truth is a bigger problem. What does that say about the value of that forum? It’s about banners, clickbait, clicks, and datamining?

Having to complain to bring a thread like that from censorship is bad. Such threads should be appreciated and promoted. If a kid is caught shoplifting and is forced to return what he stole is he a good kid? I imagine M85s post caused butthurt among some of those exspurts who blessed it for over a week. The bigger problem is what gets censored and deleted that you don’t see? Can such a venue be trusted? All my opinions but why I’m no longer a mod or member there, or even go by there more than once every couple months.

I think if the paint is removed, it will be clearly visible that they are also “humped”.

It’s clearly visible numbers filled or not if you’re familiar with dou. 42 bolt font, which is the same as dou. 43-44 and probably the most distinctive font of any maker, particularly as it’s about half the size. Not many have handled dou. 42s, but several vetted originals are posted here and in our pic sticky library.

Wasn’t doubting you at all just saying I had a hard time

In your guys defense, it's definitely not the worst fake and would/does fool many. He even got a slope back 7 with serif. Definitely not the Harbor Freight die set, just not right for dou.

I've always had a particular interest in Czech production so this stood out more to me. Plus, I've had a couple dou 42 K98ks over the last 35+ years. Mine you see with the dou. 42 G.24(t) cost me $450.00, which was a little under retail then, so that pretty much gives an idea of how long I've had it.

Yours wouldn't happen to be the one in vol. IIb per chance? There's one 3297/J and I found it interesting that the 7 on the fake is almost an exact match to the 7 on the G.24(t). Slope back with serif just like he used.

I notice that guys who've had/handled a lot of an item can spot a fake so easily. That kind of experience does take time and a fair amount of legit pieces to acquire though.

I just glossed over his posting without looking into the bolt for fakes. The bolt handle is obvious once you look at it but I have a hard time with the rest of the bolt pieces not knowing too much about fonts.

It’s one of the main reasons I started compiling the pic sticky library of vetted originals when this site first started. Multiple original examples, organized by maker and date can usually be found to compare. Plenty of fonts on originals of just about every flavor here:

Hambone, this reference has saved me thousands of dollars on bad guns. Thank you for putting it together years ago. I reference this and the books prior to any purchase.

If that’s all mod Miller Tyme can throw towards me, that’s hilarious. Notice how he conveniently edited my post and deleted the part where I edited it to include “Post is back up now, Thanks”. I have the time stamp proof, so he can pound sand. That DOU thread was gone for 20 mins at least! I even reset my phone and rebooted the internet to make sure.

Also, he locked the thread, lol
