FG42 Type I Progress! SMG site

Well done - Rick - looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition!

A less seen pic of the E-type and some nice accessories.

Hi,

Thanks for the words of support! Pit, I have never seen that photo before and it is one of the cooler ones I have seen ever. Any idea who owns it? And can a copy be bought for the office here? Ok, Shooting again today.... In so many ways just like the type II in that the problems that have arose have the same basic causes/fixes and so maybe that ugly learning curve we went through will pay off! Many little irritating issues I had to address correct today and most of them stemmed from rushing it a bit.

Addressed them all successfully except the mag self eject but it is getting better and it does not have me concerned. Last ammo dump was a whole 8 rounds - a full day of tweeks in the hot sun had me ready to smile at success and head to the a/c. Well, I think you will want this rifle. Those last 8 were just bang bang bang with one hand holding the rifle up and pulling the trigger and the other pulling to the rear a bit on the mag to keep it in. About a shot a second as the rifle didn't really jump around.

Balances well walking with it in your hand held at the rear of the hand guard - mag out - and reminds you of carrying an AR15. It is 2 lbs heavier, even as I shot it, but it just feels small and light. Wow wow wow I hope it holds up as well as the type II because if it does anyone that shoots one will probably want one! Did I mention we went with a different trigger group with this one - closer to the original - and it is better as well.

Ok, thats the Murphy bait for the day. I am all grins so I am ready to duck....... : )

I offered to buy the photograph from the original poster - and basically asked him the same question you have - I have not heard back yet.

Keep up the great work - Pit.

(If I were to recommend one change from the original - Go one better than the German's and make sure the same mag fits your two models. They had three mags, E-type (milled r), F-type (intermediate stamped r) and G-type (stamped r) - Three guns that took three separate magazines - no interchanging, I always thought this was a design oversight.)

Interesting article in American rifleman on the smg built FG 42 semi clone,
i would scan and post, but I am not sure of the rules here on such activity

been away on business just getting caught up
last sunday I stopped at a gun show in Northern florida on my way down to so florida, good show. I was looking for MP-44 and ar-180 parts, stopped at a table full of nazi memorabilia. Tucked up against the case and mis labeled was a original FG-42 bayonet. The item had a white sticker with MG-42 on it, it was serial numbered and waffenamted . I walked around and came back to the table, the owner was engrossed in anti obama conversation. I asked to see the bayonet real kurt he said do you know what it is ?????? I said yes its mis labelled, its a FG-42 bayonet then he got that pissy look. I looked it over he said it original real snotty tone, I said im sure, cause Estes does not make them that good. then he said who is Estes. I said thank you and handed it back and moved on

he wanted $ 400.00. I did not bicker

Score. How much do you think an original would sell for?

I saw one for sale a while back, that pifighter almost bought or tried to buy, it was offered at $ 375.00. I almost bite figured someone would be looking for a original just did not have $ 400 to sit on. but yes it was the most interesting item in the whole show

I have not seen one for $375 - I wouldn't have hesitated to buy it.

I offered $500 (was prepared to go higher) for one that some fellow was posting on various boards asking about (he had bought it as a MAS36 bayonet), he was kinda flakey and eventually just disappeared - I suspect he put it up for auction at RIA - there was one there that had a ridiculous estimate on it a month or so ago - I didn't flow through to see if it sold.

I'll PM you Sprat.

jesse

like i said i had you in mind, while looking at it after that debacle last time and you decide to get a repro from Estes. I will try to track down the dealer see if we can get this for you or more info. I thought it was a buy but did not want to tie up $ 400

I will get back to you via PM & e-mail

Lot #1621 (FG42 bayonet) sold for $575. If this was your flaky seller I think he learned a good lesson. He fell for an auctioneer telling him he had a $3,000 piece of internet gold, when in reality he could have sold it right away for the same price to good old Pit.

Lot #1622 is also interesting:
http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/65/lid/1621

LOT 1621
Rare and Impressive Krieghoff Second Model FG-42 Fallschirmjaegergewehr
Paratrooper Rifle, BATFE Registered Fully Transferrable
Machine Gun with Boxed Ammunition
SOLD $322,000

Gunkraut -

After auction fees, my cash offer without any negotiating - which I was prepared to do - would have been more than he made.

It's all good -

Hi Dave, Doug, All,

It was premature in that I should have at least fixed the buttstock latch so it wasn't like shooting a pogo stick but I am so excited about getting to send it in I just wanted to share. It is funny because it appears the muzzle is not moving back and forth much but boy I am! It is a cool little rifle and once we get it approved, make sure enough people are interested in it then we finish the bells and whistles! Thanks for your past business and kind words on the new little beast. : )

Rick

I'm looking forward to owning one and getting it to the range. Remember.......build these a little loose.
