I went to the auction. It was a very strange day. Lots you would think would bring crazy money didn't, lots you would expect to be reasonable weren't. There were a couple of Singer made 1911a1's on the list, I was hoping to see a real wild west bidding war. The first one that came up had I think, two bids, then it was over. The next one that came up, one bid and done. Granted, they went for 80K and 75K respectively, but I thought the opening bids would start lower. Some of Mr. Browns items started off really low, and then just as I thought about raising my hand, a volley of bids would push it over 4K. I had my eye on a 1938 147 code k98k. I knew if it started high, it would soon be out of sight. It started high. I put my hands in my pockets. There were a few bids, and it was gone. I started after a Standard Model, and that went out of reach. I came home with a 1940 660 code. I saw the sold for list this week. Turns out the 147 code went for only $100 more than my 660 code. I must have blinked or something.
